Kara is all sunshine and hope. She believes in Lena so much that sometimes she doesn’t know what to do with all that faith. So she tucks it away quietly inside her heart, letting it bloom there like the light in Kara’s eyes when she finally agrees to attend game night.
“Yes!” Kara wraps her up in a tight hug, and Lena lets herself sink into deceptively strong arms and the smell of CatCo coffee. She presses her palms against Kara’s shoulder blades and they stand there together for a moment, Kara rocking them happily from side to side.
It’s a novelty move for a Luthor, letting someone in.

She had missed the softness of the hero’s gaze, and having it directed her way after such a long period of self-isolation was enough to reignite a small spark of hope inside her. Maybe things were not totally lost after all. Their relationship, their fight against Lex and Leviathan—it all felt manageable now that she and Kara had tackled the ugly bulk of their near-fatal spat. Though there were a million things still left to be said, Lena felt more resolved than ever to take down her abusive, narcissistic, maniac of a half-brother. One thing had become abundantly clear during this ordeal: She would have to be the one to fight for her own soul, no matter how often the pull of darkness drew her in.

The longer Lena stands in her bedroom, her still-wet hair slowly dripping onto the hardwood, the more she wonders whether screaming will make her feel any better. She’s been waiting for this phone call for the last twenty-four hours and now she's staring at the missed call banner. Somehow she already knows that calling back isn’t going to work out in her favor, so instead she closes her eyes and clicks on the voicemail.
“Hi Lena, this is Kara Danvers! I got your messages, all seven of them. I’m so sorry that we didn’t have a chance to sit down this week in person, although it sounds like you’ve had your hands full at work. I have some stuff I need to take care of before we leave, so I’ll have to meet you at the airport. Since I’m cutting it a little close, I’ll send a courier to pick up my ticket from you this afternoon. And Lena? Take a deep breath. This is all going to be fine.
