The full moon was high over the Liyue night sky, but neither Tartaglia nor Zhongli had retired for the evening.
Maybe once they would have parted ways after enjoying their meal at Liuli Pavillion, ignoring a handshake that lingered too long, or a glance that parted regretfully from the other.
Except now Tartaglia knew that his dining partner was the one and only Rex Lapis. And, when the dust had settled, instead of leaving the very city he had almost destroyed, he found himself falling into the ex-Archon’s bed.

The tempest grew as Osial raged, but this was not the fiercest battle on the top of the mountain at the moment.
"This is the end of the line, Pyotr," Zhongli held steady onto his resolve as he threw Pyotr off the mountain, yes Childe would be upset but there was no other way. He had to get rid of him!
Pyotr the, completely inanimate, Rock ends up falling and hitting a treasure hoarder who was using the storm as an opportunity for robbery. The treasure hoarder's sunglasses fall and land on Pyotr the Rock as he gets knocked out, making Pyotr look really cool.
"You saved me again, Pyotr!" Childe cried as he was rushing out, still weak from his battle with the Traveller.

Au where Childe gets super attached to this one random rock bc of his trauma from the abyss, and by the time he was in the fatui, it upgraded to best friend. Everyone else suffers 1 million psychic damage.

“As I have said many times before, I do not think a fight is what Childe needs. If he would just let me brew him some tea so we may sit down and discuss our feelings–”
“Please. Sitting down and discussing feelings seems like the least Childe-like interaction to exist. No, he’s the type to fight to the death. Good for business, huh?” She waggles an eyebrow, but Zhongli merely blinks back at her.
Or, Zhongli wants to make up with Childe after the disastrous events at the Golden House. Childe wants to fight. They compromise.

“So, you gonna tell me what the sleepwalking’s about?”
Zhongli sighs. “It’s not that I do not wish to share the details of my life with a dear friend. But you might wish you hadn’t asked.”
“Try me,” Childe suggests. “Can’t be any weirder than anything else I’ve learned about you.”
Zhongli snorts softly through his nose, taking a sip of tea. “I believe I am undergoing an old ritual, of sorts. Though I am more human now than ever before, I find myself beholden to certain instincts."
“Oh?” Childe shifts upright, interested. “You mean… dragon stuff.”
Zhongli nods, licking his lips and directing his gaze away from Childe. “I believe,” he says again, the faintest tinge of color creeping over his cheeks, “that I am searching for a mate.”
Zhongli has been sleepwalking through the Liyue streets in the dead of night, unresponsive and with eyes aglow. Childe intends to get to the bottom of the situation, but everything changes when Zhongli reveals the likely motive behind his nightly wanderings.
Childe knows he shouldn't fuck Zhongli in his sleep. He really shouldn't. But when has he ever been sensible?

Zhongli furrows his brows, seemingly in confusion, “What do you mean, Childe? Everything was merely a contract. Nothing more, nothing less.”
A sharp pang of disappointment strikes the warrior’s heart, “A contract needs to be mutual. You colluded with Signora to hide everything from me and turned me into an enemy of your nation. Don’t you think you owe me something?” his tone is almost hopeful, desperate even.
An apology.
An apology is all he wants. He wants proof. Proof that he meant more than some convenient tool to the consultant. Proof that remorse, or at least hesitation, was involved when Zhongli made his decision to backstab him. Proof that the feelings he harboured for Zhongli weren’t in vain.
But Zhongli shows that they were.

“Let’s go there now! We both need a break.” Childe continued speaking, as if not noticing the lack of excitement from the other man. He was betting everything on Zhongli agreeing this one time, even if he had to work for it.
“I’m quite busy today. Feel free to go without me.” If that wasn’t the tone Zhongli used to be busy with others, Childe would know nothing about Zhongli. He suppressed the small frown that threatened to show on his face.
“I can wait if you need to finish something first.” Childe suggested, trying not to think much of the tone. He knew it wouldn’t be easy after all, didn’t he? Just small obstacles…

Studying the huge chandelier above the hall full of people, Zhongli wonders if Childe, too, might be looking at those dancing sparkles. From across the hall, maybe? Even if it's just a hopeful sentiment and nothing more, he's here now, which is certainly better than the gloomy darkness of the previous month.
Somewhere here, in the middle of the celebration and glory, he must be hiding.
If he's hiding at all. That Zhongli still has to find out. For now, only the chandelier as his guiding star: does this bronze light fall on Childe's hair, playing with the red hues?

"In ancient Liyuean courtship, the first stage is the Presentation of Worth. One must procure six treasures of great value to offer to their intended. The quality of these treasures reflects the depth of one’s devotion."
