“Oh…” Shane held out his right hand in obedience. Ilya took it. He brushed the outside of Shane’s wrist.

“Washing dishes?”
“And passing.” Ilya raised his eyebrows. “And shooting sometimes. Like, forehand.”
“And jerking off?”
“Shut up…” Shane said, smiling.
“Shane,” Ilya started. He wanted to tread carefully. How could he convey to Shane that he’s an ancient and decrepit million-year-old hockey player, a player who needed to stay attuned to his aches and pains, without triggering a shut down? Was that even possible?

The noise almost knocked Shane over. Ilya instinctively covered Kaya’s head and pulled her close.
“Oh God…” Shane whispered.
“Oh my God!” Ilya gasped, eyes brightening.
After a seemingly interminable three-year wait, Ilya and Shane are the proud adoptive parents of a sixteen-month-old girl. In the interim, when their hopes for adoption were all but lost, they decided to pursue surrogacy. Now the due date is fast approaching, and as new and expectant parents, this transition brings up unprocessed feelings.

Shane handed Jackie a glass with a generous pour of wine and waited for her to take a seat next to Hayden. He sat up a little straighter before delivering his well-rehearsed line, “Now that you’re both here, we wanted to let you know that we have started an application for adoption.”
In 2023, Shane and Ilya are 32 years old, out, married, and playing on the same professional hockey team. Even though they’ve come a long way in terms of their self-acceptance and trust in their relationship, they are still living and working and in a heteronormative world. Growing their family won't be easy. Luckily, they have each other.

But there is nothing wrong with giving Chernysh all the pats and treats that he deserves, is there?
Nothing wrong with encouraging Chernysh to spend more and more time at Ilya's house until he doesn't even remember who Hollander is.
Because Hollander is stupid and boring and does not deserve a dog as good as Chernysh. No, he doesn't, does he? Because Chernysh is the best boy in the whole world, yes he is.

Rather than give him the joint, Ilya takes it back between his own lips and sucks in a deep breath, the tip glowing as he does so. Then, before Shane can process it, he’s reaching up and sliding one large hand around the back of Shane’s neck, pulling him down so their lips meet.
Shane gasps softly, and Ilya takes the opportunity to blow smoke into his open and waiting mouth.
