It’s just… he’s never been this happy.
He can’t stop staring at her like she’ll suddenly disappear. Heck, every tug of her hand in his has him thinking that this will be the moment that he wakes up. Soon he’ll open his eyes and find himself on the scratchy, old floor of his trailer, smelling like stale weed and misery.
But it never happens. Instead, the wind ruffles Chrissy’s short off-pink dress, and makes the little dots of flowers scattered on the skirt dance in happiness.

It’s… embarrassing, actually, that Eddie’s hero’s journey—unanticipated in and of itself, Christ, but, here they are—kicks off to the musical stylings of one Billy Joel.
But, frankly he’s just lucky it’s not, like, Rick Springfield. Death is looking pretty imminent right about now, so at least he’s not going to bite it to the tune of fucking “Jessie’s Girl.”
Which, considering the Chrissy Cunningham of it all, would be… Well. At least sort of apropos. So, like, thematically, Eddie couldn’t even be all that mad about it.
