Summary
He finally lands a gig at a privately owned restaurant downtown. It isn’t the fanciest of places, but there’s a full bar, a large, functional kitchen, a mostly competent staff, and a menu that’s in dire need of improvement. It gives Gale purpose again, providing him with patrons to cook for and meals to invent. He returns to a life of making food to please, ecstatic to have a plethora of hungry stomachs to fill and impress. He thinks he might even enjoy this new, less exclusive joint.
All in all, he supposes his situation could be worse. Or at least, he believes it could be, if it weren’t for the insufferable bartender.

They weren't talking about it. Gale shouldn't have been surprised; Astarion wasn't known for sharing his feelings unless it was to complain. Where Gale wore his heart on his sleeve, his newfound vampiric lover kept his squirreled away, shoving it down as far from the surface as he could manage.

“I shouldn’t have to tell you that my keeping a god as a pet is a rather extreme form of blasphemy, Astarion,” Gale jokes, but his heart isn’t quite in it.
“Not as a pet,” Astarion insists, “But… humor me. If you love me still, let me teach you how to keep me when the morning comes. Let me show you how to bind me.”

“I appreciate your concern, if you can call it that. But,” Gale grimaces as he peeks an ankle through the slit in the robe. One of the slits. Because there are two, one for each leg, each high enough to almost reach the hem of his briefs. “I’m a bit… exposed, don’t you think?”
Astarion tips his head, then simply reaches out to pull the fabric wider. Gale recoils on instinct, which of course just leads to the whole of his thigh being bared instead. “Well, this is an easy fix. I’ve got just the thing.”

Astarion fumbled with the thin strap around his neck with shaky hands. If this tadpole broke his master's compulsions, then maybe he'd be able to remove the collar.
A sharp sting shot through his fingers as soon as he touched the hidden clasp. Astarion cried out soundlessly and curled around his hands.
He breathed deeply and flexed his fingers to get the painful tingles out before looking around the woodsy clearing he landed in.

So, the first thing that happens is Castiel comes back.
~~~
"Right," Dean says eventually, gruffly. He looks down at his shoes. "I'm not gonna tell you how to live your life, man. It's—you know, yours. Do your thing, love who you love, whatever. I can't really stop you from loving me, if that's what you've decided to do, but I don't—I can't—"
"I know," Castiel murmurs, still just smiling a little, not looking heartbroken at all. "Don't worry about it, Dean, that's all I ask."
"So we're—" Dean risks a glance up, swallowing thickly. "We're good?"
Castiel hums. "We're good."
“I don’t really think there’s a true name for what I am,” Gale admits, looking sheepish, “But I have named it, myself. If that’s interesting to you.”
“Of course I’m interested, Gale, I’m here.” He’s asking.
“I… call it Portentus Castificare. An omen of punishment,” Gale says, eyes on his hands where they rest in his lap.
“Is it that bad?” Astarion cajoles, hoping to earn another smile somehow or other.
“It’s certainly… monstrous. And the hunger, when its yawning void opens within me, is… almost insatiable. And quite painful. This… this body, what you’ve come to recognize as me… it’s a facsimile of the man I was before, as best as I could recreate it. But I died that day, I think. It absorbed me just as I absorbed it,” Gale does smile, but it’s a sad one.
"All of this is mine now. This dreadful palace I’ve remade. The power he so desperately wanted. The respect and gratitude of the entire city. And do you know what my greatest victory is? What I have that he never had?" Astarion’s thumb smoothed along Tav’s cheekbone in admiration.
"You," he breathed. "I have someone who trusts me completely. Who loves me more than anything. I hope that whatever hell he’s rotting in, he sees what I have. How much more I am than what he tried to make me. I have everything I’ve ever wanted."After Baldur’s Gate is saved, all of Tav’s dreams have come true. Life as a Vampire Lord’s beloved pet is sweet, especially for a bard who only ever wanted to dedicate himself to music and love. And Astarion does love him—doesn’t he?
Astarion is the most powerful vampire who ever lived, poised to rule the city from the shadows with a beautiful, obedient consort by his side who is happy to fulfill his every wish.
Until an old threat reappears, and Tav finds himself a pawn in a larger game. Astarion would never allow anyone to steal his most precious treasure—but when it boils down to a choice between power and saving Tav, could a Vampire Lord truly relinquish power?
Summary
Lord Astarion holds grand masquerades that are attended by the finest of the Gate. He samples the populace like wine; finding a taste for fat blooded noblemen and soft academics. And he kills with impunity, now– once slitting a beggar’s throat who had kicked up dust on his finest boots.
So why does sad little Professor Dekarios still elude him so?
Astarion quirked an eyebrow at the glare of the eyes from across the room. He let a small triumphant smirk rest on his face as a hand gently carded through his hair. Tara was too late in claiming the wizard’s lap this time and Astarion was able to monopolize Gale’s whole space.
His eyes slid closed as the fingernails scratched at the base of his head and Astarion went boneless with a light hum. He heard a quiet grumble from across the room and knew it wasn’t loud enough for Gale to hear.
Summary
Most people are surprised to find out that Gale and Astarion are roommates. Maybe it’s because Astarion doesn’t seem like the type to hang around stuffy academics all day, or because Gale seems like someone who would be overwhelmed by Astarion’s…everything. And to be fair to most of Gale’s acquaintances, Gale himself would have agreed with that assessment a mere three months ago.
Of course, that had been before both of them had essentially experienced the equivalent of nuclear bombs going off in their lives.
or: a series of times that gale and astarion didn't realize they were healing together, and the one time that they did (plus a little snippet at the end that I couldn't bring myself to get rid of)
He'd done it.
Actually done it.
Taken off after the Crown, and then had the gall to come back afterwards: adorned in divinity, apathy, and silver, with a heavy hand of self-importance.
Silver.
Second place. Second best.
Like he'd made Astarion, after the Crown.
