Everyone copes with war in different ways. Frank counts the days. He says their names like a prayer. Someday, maybe, when he gets back home, he'll be able to look back at all of this, and pinpoint it, which day was actually the worst. Maybe he’ll be able to go through photos and documents and find the names of the men he knew and figure out who he’d lost.

Summary
Losing control of his body is something Frank’s been training for years to avoid. Ballet is an art of precision, but they’re not onstage right now. He moves frantically now, no rhythm or musicality possible when Gerard invades all of his senses. His hips buckle forward involuntarily and he is suddenly grinding against Gerard’s palm. He grips the table with one hand and clutches Gerard’s shirt with the other.
“I just want more for us.” Gerard’s voice is still low, but even in his desparte haze Frank can still recognize the hint of sincerity in it. “I want us to create something, Frank. Something that is truly ours.”

Summary
Frankie knows it hasn’t only been built on a foundation of physical attraction. That played, and plays, a large role, this mutual electricity that runs between them when their eyes so much as fleetingly meet, but Frankie knows Gee’s heart and has seen it since the beginning when they found Frankie weeping on the sidewalk after a university tour, devastated by the fact that she believed she could gaze with starry eyes all she wanted but she’d never be able to attain the money for it. Gee sat beside her with her parasol, providing Frankie with its shade in the glaring summer sun, and consoled a complete stranger who felt safe enough in their presence to open up about every pressing issue involving money. That's where their arrangement began.
