Summary
In the Fall of 1925, TK arrives on the shores of a remote island surrounded by a stormy sea. The rain that pelts the harbor is as bleak as the broken heart he carries with him. He’s taken a job as the island’s new lighthouse keeper - unqualified for the post but enticed by the isolation. He quickly encounters Carlos, a clerk at the town’s general store with kind brown eyes and his own past hurts. In his grief, TK thinks it will be better for everyone if he spends the rest of his days in solitude. Fate and the lighthouse have other plans.

Summary
Sir Carlos Reyes is at a rocky point in his life—engaged to be married to a woman he can't love, living in a house with a family that has never felt more distant. A several-months-long quest from the king is exactly what he needs to sort out his head and get used to the fact that his life isn't turning out how he wants. If it means babysitting a spoiled prince, then Carlos will just have to deal with that.
Prince TK is at a loss. After suffering an accident at his own hands that has severely weakened his magic, the only thing he desires is to be left alone. Unfortunately, his father is dragging him across the kingdom on a goodwill tour. To top it all off, he's been assigned a personal guard who is insanely hot and infuriatingly annoying.
Maybe what they both need is right in front of them.
Oh, and there's also something coming after magical creatures. Surely that won't come up on the journey, though.

“Shut up,” TK says, uncrossing his arms so he can take the five extra steps to the dining table and dramatically drop down into his husband’s lap. He finally presses a kiss to those perfect lips, tasting the coffee Carlos’s been sipping and the cinnamon he brewed it with. Carlos immediately brings a hand to TK’s hip to support him while he runs the other up the back of his t-shirt.
“Hot guy with a tool belt,” TK continues, poking a finger into the dimple at the side of Carlos’s dopey grin. “Big hammer, looong measuring tape… offering to lay some pipe.”
“I believe I laid a decent amount of pipe last night,” Carlos deadpans.

Carlos leans forward to kiss him, and he kisses TK’s smile. “Pretty baby,” he murmurs against his lips, those lips that Carlos has missed so much. He’s missed them every day of the last three weeks.
“All of this bullshit and I still don’t know what happened,” Nancy says. The elevator dings, and she unceremoniously shoves them out of the doors when they open. “Room 495. Think you can make it?”
“Where are we going?” Carlos is standing in the middle of the hall, holding both of TK’s hands, just staring and staring, taking him in, letting the feeling of TK’s hands in his continue to unknot that anger he’s been holding onto.
“That would be a no, you cannot make it on your own,” Nancy says, going back to herding them, pushing them down the hall toward a door at the end of the hall. “Bride’s father says the rooms are on him. He feels awful that any of the first responders were affected.”
“Why do we need hotel rooms?” TK asks absently, still looking into Carlos’ eyes.
“Because you two need to bone to get over this pollen bullshit. Unfortunately, that’s the only cure. Good luck to both of you.”

Carlos has an accident at work and for a while, TK thinks everything is lost.
But then he wakes up, and everything is okay.
But then it isn’t, because Carlos doesn’t remember him. In fact, Carlos doesn’t remember anything of the past three years: the entirety of TK’s time in Austin. Which is a pretty sick joke on the universe’s behalf, in TK’s opinion. He doesn’t know how to deal with that fact that though he didn’t lose Carlos, he did lose him in just about every way that matters.
But if one thing will always be true it’s that TK Strand loves Carlos Reyes with his entire heart and nothing is going to stop him from being there for him, whatever may come.

The area of the ocean that Carlos gestures to with his stick seems so miniscule, but TK knows it’s likely thousands of square miles. “We may have gotten slightly off course when we lost control, but yeah,” he slides his foot over the picture, effectively wiping it away. “It’s a start.”
His eyes are stormy and his brow is furrowed. TK wants to smooth it out with his thumb, he wants to wash the dirt off his neck and ask him why he looks like he’s holding the weight of the world on his shoulders, but all he can do is nod and hope the rescue team can find them as easily as the map made it seem.

Carlos touches the shallow end of the pool and stops, allowing himself the time to look back. Appearing slightly fuzzy and gleaming through Carlos’ goggles, TK sits on the edge at the deep end, palms splayed flat on the tiles, legs dangling in the water and kicking softly. He raises a hand, waving to beckon Carlos back. There’s something so sweet about the gesture, Carlos’ stomach flutters. He has to stop himself from smiling as he swims towards TK. He peers through his goggles at the sharpening sight of TK’s feet under the water, the way he moves them in a circular motion. Carlos keeps his head under and grabs TK’s foot playfully. TK howls, elated.
“I knew you were going to do that, and it still scared me,” TK says, his voice squeaky through his rolling laughter.
Suddenly it feels to Carlos like he’s known TK forever – like they’re best friends from school days, kids at play.
