Summary
John is revived on Theseus about a year into the trip, and he’s come back both ascended and depressed. He disassociates often, which for him is a lot more literal than most. Dirk brings out a side of sadism John didn’t realise he had in him and John brings out sadomasochism that Dirk was well aware he had in him. It’s kind of romantic.

"And then there's a customized copy of PONY PALS, a gift to you on your 14th birthday from the slippery Mr. Strider. Each page contains lovingly hand-written commentary on the deeds of this intrepid young horse. Later, about halfway through the book, rather than see the gag through to the bitter end, Strider began pasting over entire pages of original text with his own completely rewritten version of the story, while keeping all the chapter titles. His revision is a tough, emotionally draining read. But it's cathartic, in all the worst ways possible.
He tends to get carried away with his projects."Note: this work is an altered book, and it plays on the physical relationship between the original pages and the edited text. As such, it's presented as a series of images. Reading the images is the only way to get the full experience, but I'm aware that some people can't/don't want to read it that way. So if that's the case, you can skip to chapter 13, which is a text-only version of the story, including rough descriptions of the most important illustrations.

The scene is set: your bathroom is cold, the tiles are cracking, the person in the mirror stares back, abyss and all. your phone rings thrice set to the noise of lara croft's dual pistols in tomb raider 3. you answer.
Ascension does not come all at once, it sneaks in steps and little choices.(Not a fic, 10 pgs of very wordy fancomics that falls between 2k ~ 3k words altogether.)

“Magnus,” he says, choked, and Magnus looks back at him, and he’s remembering, too. He leaves Barry behind and sprints at Taako and scoops him up, wrapping his huge arms around Taako’s waist and slamming them together, like he can’t get close enough. Taako’s legs cinch around Magnus, his arms around his neck, and he holds on for dear life as Magnus sobs into his neck.
(Or: Taako and Magnus get their memories back, and now they need to negotiate some emotions, because they're having a hell of a lot of them all at once.)
