“Taking lives, and protecting lives….” She starts quietly, smiling to herself with her hands in her lap. “When you give yourself over to war, there are moments when you choose who lives and who dies. To be a soldier, in many ways, is to be a God among men.” Her eyes track up to me. “I think women see death in a different way. Maybe it’s my faith, but we have a special relationship with shararat alhayaa, alruwh.”
The spark of life. The soul.
She continues. “We are born both to bleed and to create life. I think that gives us an upper hand in war. To truly be a God among men, you must start off as something… something holier.”
