When Jesper asks what insurance they have that Jan Van Eck will pay them for this dangerous mission to the Ice Court, the secret of Wylan's identity is revealed. A secret that's like a bomb going off in the room, exposing lies and betrayals in their tightly-bonded team.

Summary
Jesper needs a favor from the cute boy who works at the tannery. Wylan fears the gunslinger may have been sent to kill him. After a fraught first meeting, they end up on a date. A date doomed to be over by the time the Bells chime midnight.
Or my take on Jesper and Wylan's pre-series one night stand, stroopwafels and all. Also my take on how Kaz Brekker learned about their hook up, instantly disapproved of it, but then quickly set about using it for his own ends.

And Jesper understands, he still does, but the part of him that itches to press him on it has grown more incessant. He wants Wylan to trust him, to reveal himself to Jesper and let him see all of it, even the parts that might be a bit ugly. He wants to understand Wylan better, to know him, and unravel his history and the years before he met Jesper.
