Tommy had his back to him, mixing the eggs in the pan to let them all fluff and delicious the way Buck loved, already dressed for the day in a dark button up and jeans, he probably woke up earlier so he could hit the farmer's market and grab all of the fresh produce, plus some extra stuff for them and the little one. The pain is immeasurable. He can hear Hen’s sobbing, Athena’s desperate pleas, Chimney’s begging between coughs and he wants into that room. He wants to help, he wants to be with his team. Instead, all he can do is fall to the floor and scream because he can’t be gone, he just can’t. The thought is filled with so much pain, all-encompassing, total and complete agony that all he can do is open his mouth in a scream.
He hears the voices over his radio, people coming in to finally get them out, but he doesn’t register any of it until that one voice, that one beloved voice, breaks through the haze.
“Evan!”
It’s Tommy, because of course it’s Tommy. Buck looks at him through his tears, knows he probably ignored direct orders to come in with the extraction team, but God, he’s here, crouching down in front of Buck, looking scared and stricken, like he’s also on the verge of tears and Buck throws himself at him, sobs into his neck. Tommy doesn’t hesitate, he never did, and wraps his arm around Buck and kisses the top of his head.

“Not until tomorrow,” he says. “Didn't want to leave without feeding you.”
And Tommy gently taps his stomach with the back of his hand before turning away, and Buck’s entire world shifts on its axis when he gets hit with an intense wave of déjà vu. It's so bad that he worries, once again, that he's having a neurological episode. It intensifies when he sees the spread of food—the same spread of food.
