    Bookmarker's Notes

I'm a SecUnit, I'm designed to want to keep my human clients safe. I'm a murderbot, I'm designed to enforce compliant behaviour in the humans I'm inflicted on. I hate to see humans I'm looking after in pain (I hate it if I have to be the cause of that pain). I like to see human characters I like in pain if they're not real. I like to see Gurathin, a human I am looking after, in pain, if it's not real. I apparently like to see Gurathin in pain, even when it's real (and he likes it) (does he like it?) (and it's real) (and I like it) (and it's real). I'm a murderbot and I'm a fucking malfunctioning piece of shit.

    Summary

The augmented human turned on his heel and left, trailed by a drone. I continued to stand around for a bit, facing but not really looking at a large, leafy shrub that the humans had placed in this area for aesthetic purposes.

Aesthetics mattered to humans. They mattered to me, too, I guess. There were unquestionably things that I liked the appearance of: my favorite jacket, the glitter of lights across the hull of a nice ship, the color of the tiles I’d picked out for my shower. Even some of Ratthi’s handmade jewelry held visual appeal—don’t tell him I said that. But a sentient entity? A SecUnit?

    Me?

    What a bizarre concept.

In which Murderbot notices a disturbing trend.

ART, can you make me uglier?

ART dropped a sigil of exaggerated horror into our feed. Who told you?

Apologies for trying to maintain some semblance of my dignity, he retorted, subvocals strained, but still sounding very much like Gurathin.

I don’t want you to maintain your dignity, I said.

    Summary

Gurathin is being a little weird again, and Murderbot is being so so normal about it. It doesn't have time for whatever the hell this is, but then it doesn't have time for anything else when Gurathin ends up infected with a deadly biotech virus.

Aka: The SecUnit is still fairly monosyllabic but... The chapter in which Gurathin can't get a word in edgewise anyway.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The ULTIMATE "MB is my blorbo" fic!

He was more than aware I was cloned human neurology and endocrines, extrapolated and then turned on myself so I could be used as a tool and discarded. He understood I'd had the ability to engage with someone this way stripped out of me by design, and that I -for my own reasons- wasn't likely to want to do anything to change that. He had also come to the same obvious conclusion I had, that if I wanted to I could get any experience I wanted out of this through him. That curiosity that had been there all along was still there, since learning there was a person inside the armour, what it was like, what made me tick, but less in the 'vivisection' way he had tried to make it sound like, and much more in the -now obvious- 'is there anything I can do to please you' kind of way that was pathetic and sweet, more than it could ever be threatening.
