Summary
Even here, in this empty apartment, he can’t show one iota of weakness. As far as Piltover knows, Viktor does not feel pain. In fact he hadn’t felt pain since he left the undercity. It’s a point of pride for him, something he maintains obsessively.
Until it follows him to his own bed, at which point he has to acknowledge the inverse: that the existence of pain is a point of shame.
Viktor forces himself to go to work during a flare-up, and the immovable object of his stubbornness meets the unstoppable force of Jayce’s desire to care for him.

As Viktor rolls his suitcase up the aisle of the plane, he’s almost afraid to see whether the window seat is empty. In an ideal universe, Viktor would have the whole row to himself, but he’ll settle for one empty seat. Just one.
Alas, reality often disappoints. As he glances into his row, a burly man huddles in the window seat. The man sniffles wetly. Viktor realizes with a start that he’s crying.
His own seat—next to the crying man—gapes up at him.

Just as soon as the dance begins, it’s over.
In the silver, the faint mist rays of light, he can make out a face. One that’s achingly familiar, one he knows like the back of his hand, yet isn’t familiar with whatsoever. A man, bronze skin pallid and devoid of the life Viktor is so used to seeing. Shaggy dark hair hanging in curtains around his face — a face littered with cuts and bruises, stained with dirt and soot. Heavy set brows and eyes wide in shock.
Rather inappropriately, Viktor’s first thought is oh, fuck. And his second. And his third.
Because staring back at him is Jayce.
While Ekko and Heimerdinger get sent to an alterate universe, Jayce gets sent back in time and is reacquainted with a much younger Viktor.

“So... you’re a transfer student?” Jayce ventures, trying to fill the silence.
Viktor shakes his head. “Exchange student. From The Czech Republic. I was in a dorm, but the elevator is broken more than it works. Housing made arrangements.” He sets his suitcase down and adjusts his cane, his movements precise but clearly strained.
“Right,” Jayce says, feeling a flicker of guilt for his earlier irritation. “Well, uh, welcome, I guess. Your room’s down the hall on the left.”
Viktor doesn’t respond, already moving toward the hallway without waiting for further instructions. Jayce watches him disappear into the room, the door clicking shut behind him.
He flops back onto the couch, grabbing his phone to text Caitlyn again:
Jayce: He hates me already.
Caitlyn: Don’t so be dramatic. Give it time. Maybe bake him cookies or something.
Jayce: He doesn’t seem like a cookie guy. More like... brooding and vaguely annoyed at my existence.
Caitlyn: Perfect. You’re great at brooding and vaguely annoying. 😘

He wavers for a moment, hesitating only a second- what if Jayce pulls away? What if he is misreading this whole scenario? What if he crosses a line that cannot be uncrossed-
He is laying with his head in your lap, Viktor chides himself. If anyone crossed a line, it was him. This is merely retaliation- the consequences of his actions. Something Jayce needs exposure to anyway.

It took the barest glance at his surroundings to figure out that he wasn’t in the vents anymore, but in a dingy alley. He had been sitting right next to a trash can, which explained the smell that was just now washing over him. The walls were plastered with black and white, peeling posters advertising local nightclubs and shops- none of which, upon his first glance through, he recognized. One of them, which advertised a place called Samuel's, declared a MIDNIGHT SHOW- Every Saturday- 25 cents a ticket.
25 cents. A ticket.
Triple futz.
It didn’t take Tony Stark to figure out where Clint was. Or, actually, when he was. Which was definitely not any time in the past thirty years at least. Twenty five cents. Jesus christ.
Clint slumped against the wall, raking his hands through his hair. “Aww, time travel, no,” he muttered, entirely to himself. He had been having such a good day too. Completely incident free. Except that he had accidentally knocked over Bucky’s coffee this morning in the communal kitchen and fled instantly. But he wasn’t ready to deal with the mortifying ordeal of thinking about that yet.

Clint knows that the circus folk mock him — call him too trusting, too soft-hearted — but even he knows nothing in this life comes free. The words puzzle him, and he reads them again carefully to make sure he hasn’t made a mistake.
His eyes are drawn to one posting at the very bottom corner, different from the others. This one is sun-faded and starting to yellow, curling at the corners. Clint crouches down, brow furrowing and lips moving as he sounds out the unfamiliar words.
