Because yesterday hadn’t ended cleanly. It hadn’t ended after they hooked up, or even with the leaving. It had ended earlier than that, on the couch, with Rozanov’s leg pressed warm and solid against his, with his hand loose and familiar at Shane’s wrist, with his lips brushing against Shane’s hair. With the sudden, bone-deep understanding that whatever this was had tipped, quietly and decisively, into something Shane didn’t know how to carry.
Going back feels like tempting fate, stepping deliberately into a place he already knows he can’t afford.

He runs a hand through his hair, pushing it back out of habit, and glances at the monitor above, the flight info still flashing. He can’t stop thinking about what happens when he finally lands, steps off the plane, and sees Oscar again.
