Summary
In the aftermath, Lottie had wondered if Nat would just cut and run. Ghost everyone and drop off the face of the earth rather than willingly stay anywhere near Lottie’s orbit. Lottie’s the one who walked away, after all, and they share too many of the same friends and bars and cafés to allow for a clean and easy separation. She wouldn’t blame Nat for doing so.
Nat doesn’t run though, as it turns out. But she does avoid Lottie.

Summary
She shoves him back against the hallway wall and looks up into wide, startled eyes.
“What the fuck?” she asks him.
“What?” Jonas asks her, confused.
“You fuckin’ staring at me in the locker room,” she says.
“I’m not,” he says, his voice strained. “I mean. I don’t mean to. I mean.”
“You’re being a fucking creep,” she says, and pushes him once more.

Summary
“We make a good team,” Lottie says, and Nat might be drunk but she’s not drunk enough to miss the way Lottie’s eyes flicker down to her mouth. “We should do this more often.”
Nat snorts. “Right. Whatever, Matthews. Never going to happen.”
“Okay,” Lottie says, tilting her head to the side with an eerily all-knowing smile. “If you say so.”
Lottie gives Nat another blatantly obvious once-over before turning on her heel and walking away, stupid tiny skirt swishing around her thighs, and Nat is reminded all over again of the fact that Lottie Matthews, in addition to being a frat girl and the most obnoxious person alive, is also on the University of Wiskayok’s soccer team, and the proof is right there in front of her.

Summary
“It’s fine, really,” Joey smiles, but Matty knows Joey’s smiles. This one doesn’t touch his eyes, doesn’t flare his nostrils, doesn’t pull little wrinkles around the corners of his lips. “I’ve played well on no sleep before, it’s not a big deal. Seriously.”
Sometimes, Johnny tells him that he’s a little too impulsive, that he doesn’t always think his decisions through. It’s a side effect of being young, he supposes, but what he says next feels a little bit different.
It doesn’t feel impulsive, it feels natural.
“Scoot over, I have an idea.”
Or, 5 Times Matty Is Desperately In Love With Joey, + 1 Time Joey Is Desperately In Love With Matty. (Surprise: they're both desperately in love the whole time and they're just both a little dumb.)

Summary
While Seth was thinking of ways to avoid ending up on the tail end of one of Rod Brind’Amour’s "I’m not angry, just disappointed and really confused about your life choices" lectures, Mikko was apparently thinking about something else entirely.
“What if we tested it?”
Seth was genuinely not sure what the hell the guy was talking about, because either they were talking about stick tape or Coach asking Seth to really, genuinely consider billeting with the Staals again, and he was mostly certain neither of those conversations required testing.
He blinked at Mikko, hands stilling on his stick. “Tested…what?”
“Svechnikov’s enormous crush on you.”
Seth dropped his stick. It didn’t bounce far, which was a relief, but also holy fuck that was not a string of words Seth had ever expected to hear, much less from a guy who Seth had only really met that morning and in a Finnish accent to boot. It probably wasn’t a Finnish thing. KK was a lot of things, but he apparently had more tact than Mikko Rantanen did, and that was a low bar to clear.
