Summary
His dad wanted to make sure he was always loved, always taken care of. Chris knew with his entire being that if his dad couldn't be the one loving and taking care of him then there was no one who would do a better job of it than Buck.
But apparently, this 'Evan' guy was written in his dad's will as the person to take care of Chris.
But that's stupid, that's the stupidest thing Chris ever heard. Chris needed to know that if he couldn't be taken care of by his dad then he'd be taken care of by Buck.
There was only one way Chris could make sure Buck would be the one taking care of him. He needed Buck to adopt him, as his stepfather.
It was a great idea, really. Chris didn't know why he's never thought of it before.
It was a win-win-win scenario. Chris got to be taken care of by his dad and Buck, his dad and Buck each got to marry their best friend, and this Evan guy could never take Chris away from Buck if his dad got hurt.
So, obviously, his dad had to marry Buck. All they had to do was fall in love. Chris didn't think that would be too hard for them.
//OR//
After Eddie gets shot, Chris overhears a conversation about the will.

Summary
Eddie thinks, as he munches on a fry, that he’s angry. He’s angry that Buck was ever wronged, that Buck even felt he had to give him that look. He’s angry that he can’t just fix it, that he’s not good at fixing things but he’s really good at messing things up. He’s angry because he’s afraid of failing when Buck needs him.
He’s angry at Buck because he’s not here, and he’s angry because it’s easier than grief, because Eddie thinks this might be a type of grief. Because he misses Buck when he’s right there, because Eddie thinks this might be another thing like all the other things he needs to deal with, the things he pushes down so deep because just letting them sit around is enough to hurt.

Summary
And maybe it’s the fact that Tyler is open and non-complicated and so unashamed that it makes Eddie feel like he doesn’t have to be either. Or maybe it’s just that Eddie’s so fucking sick of hiding, of letting people see him for who he’s not, of playing this suffocating role that he’s feeling a little impulsive. Either way, Eddie opens his mouth and what comes out is—
“I do, actually.”
Tyler raises a singular eyebrow at him.
“Swing for the same team, I mean.” He blows out a slow, calming breath, making eye contact with absolutely nobody, and then announces at large, “I’m gay.”

Summary
"You're here," he breathed.
"Right here," Eddie promised, giving his hand a squeeze. Buck's thumb, in turn, found a home between two of Eddie's knuckles. "Chris and I aren't leaving again. We're here for as long as you'll have us."
Eddie had never heard a cry sound so like a laugh, but Buck had always been a miracle worker.
"Is forever a good place to start?"
It's not long enough. He feared there was no word in any language, dead or alive, that encompassed how long he wanted to spend with Buck and Christopher. When the day came to return to earth, Eddie knew he'd claw and spit and bite his way away from the hand of God for another second at their sides.
"Yeah," Eddie said. Soft enough that, if Buck weren't staring so hard, it would've been lost. "It's a start."
Or: Eddie and Chris come home.

Summary
Olive is so small as she shifts against his chest, her fingers finding the fabric of his shirt, clutching as tight as her tiny fist will allow.
Eddie stills, watching in quiet awe, memorizing every detail—the delicate slope of her nose, the curve of her barely-there smile, the way her lashes brush against her cheeks. He traces her features with his eyes, like if he studies them long enough, they’ll etch themselves into his memory forever.
"I’m here," he whispers, shifting his hold just enough to press a kiss to her impossibly soft temple. She exhales a tiny, contented sigh, her fingers loosening their grip. "I’m not going anywhere."
The words catch against the lump in his throat.
He wants to believe them. He needs to believe them.
But the doubt lingers, curling in the back of his mind like an old wound that never quite healed.
Because he said the same thing once before.
And then he left.

Olive Isabel Diaz is born, Eddie grapples with his fear of abandonment and discovers that, maybe, it’s finally okay to stay.

Summary
Nova slowly reaches out a tiny hand, brushing her fingertips across the birthmark on his face. The touch is light, barely there, but it hits him like a wave, a connection so pure and immediate that it fills his chest with a warmth he can hardly contain.
“Hi,” she murmurs softly, and when he smiles back at her, she lets out the smallest giggle, her eyes lighting up. It’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard, and in that moment, the weight of everything—his fears, his doubts, his past mistakes—falls away.
It’s like he’s discovering a part of himself he didn’t know existed, a love so powerful it feels like it’s been there all along, waiting for her. The way she looks at him, the way she seems to see him without needing to know who he is or where he’s been, fills him with a sense of purpose that feels both exhilarating and humbling.

Summary
The thing was, the 118 was full of gossips.
Eddie had been at the station less than a week before Hen and Chim wrangled details about his “hot young thing” from him (“Buck is only 4 years younger than me, he is not a ‘hot young thing’!” Eddie complained.)
And Bobby was open about his worries for his son’s lack of direction and the secrets he appears to be keeping (“I just wish I could help Evan find the thing that gives him purpose,” Bobby lamented.)
It just made it all the more ridiculous (and horrifying) when Eddie realizes he’s been dating his Captain’s son this whole time (“Defiling his baby,” Chimney cackled, because he clearly wanted Eddie murdered.)
--
Or, the AU where miscommunication abounds as Eddie seeks advice about his new relationship, Bobby despairs over his adopted son's career prospects and his refusal to talk about it, and Evan Buckley-Nash juggles training at the fire academy, building a family with his new boyfriend, and trying to work out how to tell his overprotective dad that he's already chosen the life he wants, actually.
It takes a goddamn tsunami, of all things, to get the story straight.Series

So it was him and Hazel against the world. And Buck was okay with that. Even if he did sometimes feel lonely, and wish he had a partner to help him on the hard days. But he didn’t have time for that. He was a dad first, and Hazel his priority, so he was fine with putting his own life on hold while he raised his daughter.
At least, he thought he was.
And then he met Eddie.

Summary
Glory’s unwoken by the alarm, curled up on his chest, her tight curls tickling him lightly.
He watches her for a moment.
Yes, it’s not always comfortable to have a four year old sleeping in your bed, but sometimes she’s the only thing that helps him wind down and feel comfortable as well.
It’s probably kind of a codependent bond to have, but whatever. He’ll feel guilty about that when he gets through the million other things he has to think about.

Summary
“Can we see him?” Eddie asked.
The doctor’s eyes flickered from Eddie to Buck before settling on Eddie,
“You can, but I’m afraid while he’s in the PICU, visitors are limited to immediate family.”Buck opened his mouth to say something, but Eddie was faster, spitting, “That’s bullshit, he’s—”
“Eddie, hey,” Buck said, squeezing Eddie’s wrist. “It’s okay, it’s alright. Just go be with him, okay?”
Eddie looked torn for a moment, mouth twisted in a frown. Buck pushed him gently towards the doctor and Eddie nodded, turning to go. Buck gave him a supportive smile that fell the second Eddie and the doctor were gone, the heavy ER door closing behind them with a loud click. His shoulders slumped and he buried his face in his hands, collapsing in on himself like a puppet with its strings cut.
A 5+1 fic of Chim realizing Buck is Chris's dad and Buck gradually stumbling on the same realization

Summary
“If I had,” Chris lingers on the words, watching Eddie intently through the screen, “If I had conditions?”
Eddie feels his stomach knot up. It’s the first time Chris has ever alluded to a willingness to come home. Usually he just shoots Eddie down with a flat “I know” before hurrying off the call. Eddie Diaz will be damned before he lets this chance slip through his hands.
“Anything,” his voice rings with desperation in his own ears, “Whatever you need to feel ready to come home. If I can make it happen, I will.”
Chris eyes him, young face serious as a judge presiding over trial. An apt comparison because only Chris could condemn or parole Eddie. His fate is in his son’s hands so completely that if he was going to therapy, Frank would probably be concerned. Finally, Chris opens his mouth and says something so earth shattering as to crack the foundations of his father’s mind.
“Marry Buck,” Chris says firmly.

Summary
Buck knew the universe wasn’t really a huge fan of him. But this? This was a new low.
The last two weeks of working with Eddie Diaz had been a special type of hell. Of course, while he’d been out of work nearly dying several times, Bobby had managed to replace him with the hottest, most competent probie that ever graduated the Academy. And of course, he hated Buck.
Which was good, because Buck hated him right back.

Summary
“Someone referred to me as your wife the other day.” Buck started.
Eddie choked on air. His cheeks were so pink. Why did he blush like that? Buck was paler than him, and yet somehow he didn’t blush anywhere near as hard as Eddie himself did.
“Do you think of me as your old ball and chain?” Eddie asked, going along with the joke despite the frankly upsetting colour of his cheeks. How was this Buck looking in love with him? Obviously they were comfortable with each other, but still.
Buck gasped, his eyes big, his back straightening out as he got ready to fight with God himself on this topic. Eddie knew immediately the rant he had started, Buck’s mockingly serious voice raising as he stared Eddie down intently.
“I would never refer to my wife as the old ball and chain. You don’t hold me down, you pick me up, you dirty little bitch. You’re the wind beneath my wings. God.”
