It might have always been buried, actually, and had just experienced unearthing.

Pearly and translucent, Wanda drapes herself across the stained ceiling of the Kentucky motel. She reclines like she’s just barged her way into Barbie’s apartment and made herself comfy on Barbie’s sofa, as she did a thousand times in life.
“I shouldn’t still be here, you know,” Wanda says.
Barbie folds her arms across her stomach, gazing up at her. Wanda’s voice has a strange echoing quality, as if she’s speaking through a metal tube, but it’s still her voice—low and vital, warm and a little scratchy.
“I know.” She doesn’t say anything else for a while. A TV blares from the room next to hers. Wanda flicks her eyes sideways in silent, withering disapproval, and it’s so dear and familiar that Barbie wants to cry.

Lucienne raises a shoulder in a shrug, looking more superior than should be possible for someone with her shirt hanging unbuttoned and her breasts spilling out of her brassiere. “Perhaps she ought to.”
Mazikeen nips at her ear. “Perhaps you ought to put your legs to better use.”
