Will Miss Hale hear of it, and what will she think? Meanwhile, Margaret Hale wrestles with the shame of the lie she told to protect her brother. When she becomes Mr Bell’s heiress, she has an opportunity to choose her future path. A variety of unexpected encounters and the consequences of social stigma, shame and regret on the choices of John Thornton, Margaret Hale and Emily, Mr Peggotty’s niece, are explored in this non-canon story of North & South with borrowings from David Copperfield (Charles Dickens) with reflections on Mansfield Park (Jane Austen).
