Summary
This is a universe in which their story remains much the same, except they've been fucking each other, in secret, for centuries. But never outright: always under the veneer of false pretense. And they don't talk about it either, afterwards, hoping the lack of acknowledgement will help them uphold the distance they've created between their emotions and their bodies. Too bad they're one and the same.
Nonchronologial smutty oneshots of Aziraphale and Crowley through the ages, trying not to love each other while falling ever deeper. Finding loopholes, bending the rules, and pretending really hard that it doesn't hurt, their feigned unaffectedness. So they act, and pay debts, and negotiate, they blame temptations and aphrodisiacs - anything but face the consequences of their own actions. They operate under hypotheticals and false pretenses - because they must - but their intentions are pure.

“How do you get forgiven?”
Aziraphale blinks. He hasn’t considered this, and certainly hadn’t been expecting to be asked about it so frankly. He’s also pretty certain Crowley must have an ulterior motive here, but for the life of him he doesn’t know what it might be. Besides, he’s an angel. Helping sinners is… well, it’s what he’s meant for.
“Well you could always try… kneeling.” That sounded good. Warming to his theme, Aziraphale continues. “Yes, you kneel, and you appreciate all that is beautiful in Her creation. You apologize for your sins – repent, as it were. And then you pledge to devote yourself to God, or to a saint or an angel. And She forgives you.”
A wicked smirk crosses Crowley’s face, his eyes flashing with hellfire.
“Kneeling,” he says, rolling the word around his mouth as though tasting it. “I could kneel. If that’s what you suggest.”

Summary
Crowley absolutely isn’t wallowing in self-pity. There are plenty of reasons for a demon to take a very long nap on a certain sofa in a certain shop. If the humans around him are concerned about the ripe odour and his spot-on impression of a pile of alcohol-soaked blankets, well, that’s their issue, not his. Then again, maybe Nina is right: stretching his wings after so long Earth-bound would feel glorious and might provide much needed fresh air and perspective. It's not like a certain archangel is going to be hovering in the cloudline over Soho.
Except, of course, he is.

Meanwhile, Crowley can't seem to figure out how to start his car without Aziraphale in it. If the ending of Season 2 made you want to immediately force these two back into the same space to have a talk about everything they just screwed up, well, this is the fic for you.

Aziraphale has known for a long time that something was wrong with Crowley's memory. He learns to navigate it. Learns to hide the hurt when Crowley acts like he doesn't know Aziraphale loves him; learns to always remind Crowley to protect himself, that they are a danger to each other. Crowley speaks to Aziraphale in thousands of languages, says I love you every way but with words, and still Aziraphale can never be certain what he doesn't remember and what he simply chooses not to speak of. Aziraphale tries to explain, to someone who does not have the memories to understand, the choice he has made.
New chapter: Crowley tells Aziraphale what it was like to be the one who couldn't remember. What it *was* like, past tense, because Aziraphale has kept his promise.

Crowley hated that this voice, his voice, rendered him so vulnerable. Fortunately for him, he had always been good at hiding how he was feeling. He always managed to ignore the cracks, no matter how many times his heart had broken through the millennia. He always retrieved the pieces and glued them back together, over and over, a bit messier, a bit more cluttered each time. It didn’t matter that it didn’t hold its original shape, because it held. It always did.
Until Aziraphale had turned those pieces to dust, that day.

A feat of storytelling and historical fiction, just phenomenal. Mind the angst, it got me good at times, but there's a happy ending eventually. Author also wrote beautiful descriptions of demisexual, polyam, and genderfluid characters/relationships and i so appreciate that.

Every time, something goes wrong, and he's forced to jump through time again, back to where he started. He's on loop #93 now. He's beyond exhausted. But Mobius is right there looking at him like that and…maybe he can take a loop just for himself, to say something he's wanted to say for a long time.
