"Mr. Curtis, I'm not sure how else to say this," she pauses a moment, tapping the pads of her fingers against the cluttered desk before letting out a long sigh, looking Darry right in the eyes. "We don't know where your brother is. No one does."
Darry feels his heart sink as he gripped the arms of the old wooden chair so hard it began creak. Sodapop puts his face in his hands in both anguish and frustration. Darry, who was currently feeling the exact same sorrow, reaches over, placing a strong hand on his brother's back, patting it gently.
After a few moments of tense silence, Darry stands from the chair, eyes hard and determined.
"Then I guess we better start looking."

After a heat of the moment decision, Darry finds himself locked up for a crime he did not intend to commit, forcing the last remnants of the Curtis family to part ways. The implications in that one word. Daniel’s near certain the kid doesn’t mean safe as in a safe bet, a sure thing. He means that he feels safe. And the fact that the kid is finding safety here of all places– in an old journalist’s arms, in his own professor’s bed, without any defined relationship. Is he speaking about emotional safety? Or is he speaking about physical safety?
Daniel’s afraid it’s the latter.

After the interview in s1ep5, Louis is shaken and desperate after reliving the horrifying loss of control that he felt when he was beaten by Lestat. Armand, suffering the emotional repercussions of his masquerade as Rashid, is dealing with reminders of his trauma when being humiliated as a servant brings up repressed memories. Louis requires Armand to fulfill his duties to him as Rashid when he is most in need of a vessel to unleash the helplessness and anger he feels. Armand is eager to serve.
