“From Jennifer? I thought you said she didn’t cook!” Doug said with feigned surprise, waving his hands, and consequently the hat, in front of him for dramatic effect. -

“Arthur!” Merlin turned to him with a sunshine-y grin that dimpled his cheeks, “can I help you with something?” Arthur realized he should speak now.
“Oh, um, yes. I’m supposed to give you my buy in money and then you’ll give it to your uncle, right?”
“You convinced your father, then?” Merlin asked, his smile returning.
Arthur chuckled and scratched the back of his now slightly warm neck, “Uh, no actually. He doesn’t know I’m doing this.”
Merlin’s eyes flickered down for a second then met his again, “Well, I think that’s great! Um, I’m glad you’re joining us.”

The warlock took a deep breath of fall aroma and when he opened his eyes, something stronger than magic pulled his vision across the street. A man walking opposite his direction escaped his peripheral vision before he could do a double take. His feet forgot how to walk and suddenly he was frozen on the sidewalk, jaw on the concrete.
