    Neve found herself smiling. Flirting with the client was a terrible idea. An ocean of trouble. Nothing good came of flirting with a client and this was still a job. Hell of a job. They’d almost died together a handful of times. He’d put her back together after she’d taken a piece of falling ancient elven statue to the head. It was still a job. He smiled like ass deep in trouble was his favourite place to be but this was still a job.

    She wasn’t quite winning that argument with herself.

    He’s not a good man. Whatever illusion of that he had held as a child had not survived into adulthood, and certainly hadn’t survived past the Nexus uprising. Whatever good Scott had chosen to see in him was most likely simply his own inherent goodness, reflected back to him through a faulty, cracked mirror. Men like Reyes were needed in places like Kadara, where good men would only suffer. Men like Scott, who are kind and good, who drink their coffee sweet and their drinks sugary, who get up at the ass crack of dawn to watch the sunrise and make the most of their day, who cling to their ideals and morals like a lifeline.
