Summary
Jo paces around the kitchen, watched closely by his dog. He’s muttering under his breath every so often, and Mallow seems vaguely interested. Mallow is still laying down, of course, always lazy, but his head is perked up as if curious whether Jo’s mood is one that will lead to a trip to the dog park. Mallow loves the dog park. Jo notices Mallow’s gaze and sighs, shaking his head.
“Not today, buddy,” he says softly. Mallow whines, making Jo even more disappointed in himself - he can’t even make his own dog happy. “The thing is,” he says aloud, sort of directed at Mallow but mostly directed toward himself, “there’s other things in Colorado, you know? Denver is a big city. Well, it’s a city, I don’t think it’s that big. Anyway, there’s more to it than just Nate.”
Mallow cocks his head at Jo. Jo didn’t say the word ‘park’ or anything close to it, which is the only word Mallow really cares about aside from ‘treat’ and ‘walk’.

Summary
They’ve been teammates for over two years, and road roommates for almost as long, so why has Fitzgerald never invited him to his home or asked him to hang out? Why has he never suggested a meal after a game or offered him a lift home?
It’s hard playing in the NHL, being surrounded by guys who you know will look at you differently if they ever find out the truth, but he’s tried his best to be a good teammate, and a good room mate to Fitzgerald. Perhaps he hasn't tried hard enough?
(This cannot be read as a standalone, you really need to have read the original for this to make any sense at all. After crashing into the ice during the 2017 Stadium Series, Sidney wakes up in the hospital without the ability to see colour. The lack of colours wouldn't be so concerning if he hadn't already found his soulmate. Even more concerning then the lack of colour however? The fact that he may not even realize he had a soulmate.
