Iwaizumi isn’t sure when Oikawa stops being so outwardly affectionate – is it a gradual reduction in the hair ruffles and head pats, the hugs and the I love you’s, or did it happen overnight? Iwaizumi knows it isn’t common with guys their age anymore – he’s never seen Ito-san or Saito-san hug each other, despite it being common knowledge that they’re best friends.
But he and Oikawa – well, he thought they were different. They’ve known each other all their lives, had crawled around together on Oikawa’s tatami as babies, had hunted for bugs in Iwaizumi’s back garden, had joined volleyball together on Oikawa’s demand. It’s normal, natural, for them to be touching each other, smack each other’s upper back after a particularly nice set from Oikawa leads to a point by Iwaizumi, to hug when they part ways in the evening, to end a phone call with love you, punctuated with dumbass and Shittykawa, but present nevertheless.

Wei Ying has been coming to Lan Zhan’s bookshop for over three months now on a biweekly basis, rifling through the shelves and leaving books in places they don’t belong, treating the tidy little shop as though it were a library. Lan Zhan, as fastidious as he is, finds it hard to care. He doesn’t try and examine that thought any closer, lest he discover something he’s not quite sure he wants to know quite yet – namely, that he would permit Wei Ying anything.
Lan Zhan owns a bookshop. Wei Ying needs books for his Chinese culture class. Lan Zhan supplies all that, and also attempts to flirt the only way he knows how - through obscure Chinese poetry.
