He freezes, paralyzed; his arms are held down again, stripping him of the ability to defend himself, and a familiar-unfamiliar voice is ringing in his ears, and he is tugged and turned around, and soon the bruises on his wrists are going to be the least of his problems, because… because…
“Verso. Verso, look at me. Hey, look at me.”
Or: Maelle brings back a certain someone from Verso's past. Things do not go well, and Verso ends up on the doorstep of the only person in Lumière who makes him feel safe.

Summary
Maelle looks at the mirror shards scattered across the floor, a disarray of sharp and jagged pieces that can never be put back together again. "I know you’re not him..." she admits in a shaky whisper. Her tear-filled eyes find Verso, the blues and greys of paint starting to unravel the edges of them, mocking him. "But you deserve to be happy,” she says. We deserve to be happy, she means.
“I deserve to be myself,” Verso says, and it sounds like a plea more than anything else. The skin around his left eye aches, as if it’s waiting for his scar’s return.
Maelle sighs before she sweeps her hand through the air, calling for her rapier. It appears in a flutter of gold petals, glimmering in the dim light of the bathroom. Her eyes are cast in shadow and her disappointed smile is somewhat crooked. "Alright. Let's try again."
or: Maelle wants a happy end for everyone she cares about, and she will keep trying until even Verso gets it right.

The girl’s shoulders hunch again. An expression is battling on her face. Guilt again, and fear, and shame. And then faintly, in the soft turn of her cheek, commiseration. She watches Gustave for a long, sad moment, and then turns to a new page in the notepad. She starts writing something, and then stops, glancing furtively at Gustave before scribbling it out. On a new line she instead writes in big bold letters:
Maelle.
OR
Gustave is the local mechanic of Lumiere, an idyllic coastal village far away from the chaos and conflict of Paris. Struggling with his recent injury and the loss of a good friend, he's not quite prepared when a family moves into the abandoned Manor on the edge of town.
He's definitely not prepared for their children.

“I’ve told you,” Louis says, tossing the bag of cancer-laden chemical corn puffs into the garbage after plucking them from Claudia’s lunch bag that he’s packing for the day, “I don’t want her eating this shit.”
Defiantly, Lestat pops open a bag himself and tosses a handful into his mouth.
Louis glares while Lestat serenely chews and swallows.
“She likes them, cheri,” and the pet name is nothing but further fuel to the flame right now, “and your government has approved them for consumption. Where’s the harm?”
“Read that ingredient list and answer your own question,” Louis shoots back, reaching for the cupboard that holds the sides for Claudia’s lunches and grabbing a container to put some Mary’s Crackers into. Lestat watches him, nonplussed, as he chews another mouthful of artificially dyed nonsense.
(louis is beyond thrilled to be a father) (now if he could just get lestat on board with his non-gmo, free range, dye-free, organic food choices for their child)

There’s a panic within him that Lestat hasn’t felt for years when the sunlight streams in a perfect circle containing Claudia and Louis’s fledgling, a panic he hasn’t felt since the night he felt tainted blood rise to his throat and the love of his life drag a knife across it. It’s the panic of an ending unexpected, of a rug yanked from beneath him. He made his choice. He chose Louis. Ghost supposes that many would probably say that they get better. They do get better, don’t they? Yes, they do. Things change, and they are better. The Infection is gone, and Hollow is safe, and Hornet is happy, and so Ghost is fine. Perhaps they are selfish, and they mourn a dying world that they can never return to, and they are more alone than ever before, but they’ll get over it.
…And it’s not as if anyone will notice if they don’t.
