He ends up at Blackbeard's: a charming little bar (that's technically not a gay bar but kind of is a gay bar) with nautical décor, classic rock, excellent cocktails, and a very pretty bartender who wears crop tops and leather.
Soon Stede becomes a regular, and obviously he just likes going there because the cocktails are great.
Definitely no other reason.

Summary
Instead of running away to become a pirate, Stede stays with Mary. He opens a café and hires a ragtag staff.
Blackbeard doesn't know how to make friends. He only knows how to take.
“Let me tell you something.” Stede's eyes are so sincere now, his grip on Ed's shoulder so grounding. “I used to stand on that dock every morning. Y'know the one, with the fancy ships and whatnot?”Ed sniffles. “Uh-huh,” he says pitifully, wiping snot from his nose with the sleeve of this elegant coat. Fitting, how he just smears his mess on everything.
Stede smiles at him, so fucking warm. “I'd walk right down there, from the café, and look out at that horizon and just dream.”
Stede's face as he says this goes a bit wistful, whisked somewhere far off and away.
"But I was a coward. I couldn't just leave. I couldn't make the decision to do what I really needed.”
Stede pulls a handkerchief from his pocket, takes Ed's snotty sleeve in his hands, and wipes at it gently.
“I guess what I'm trying to say here is that... I was relieved. It was a relief to be taken from all of that without any choice in the matter.”

The once-white paint is stripped by weather and wear, a portion of the roof is caved in, and the spokes of the wraparound porch are all gnawed through by animals.
Ed gazes up at the broken windows and the birds that have built nests there. At his side, Stede is waiting, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"It’s perfect," says Ed.
