The winter has always been rather hard on Viktor.
Yes, the snow and frost bite into his fingers, and his cane slips on ice-slick ground, and he has to walk even slower than usual, and yes it seems as though he is permanently in a state of hypothermia, but truthfully there is even a permanent chill in the tips of Viktor’s fingers in the height of summer, and truthfully Viktor knows physical discomfort well— there is more than that. There is a yearly, omnipresent reminder of the state of his heritage, his family, of his isolation— a cruel, city-wide boast of a warmth Viktor was not lucky enough to be born into. There is the winter holiday.
This year is much the same— a permeating chill seeping into every space he can find, lights and posters and songs celebrating something he has never had and may never have, a dorm room that is barren of Christmas and almost worse than the celebrations beyond his windowsill. This year is much the same, except for one thing. This year, there is Jayce.

“Would it really be so bad,” Jayce began, speaking against the edge of Viktor’s lapel. “To share a name along with our dreams? Because I’d gladly take yours if you’d give it to me.”
Jayce's attempts at getting Viktor out of the lab lead to the pair becoming regulars at a coffee shop near the bridge. Things go well until an innocent misunderstanding nearly throws a cog into everything they've built between them.

The sun. Bright, the source of energy for living life on this world, spreading its life to all around it. Even when it leaves, it’s only inevitable that it will eventually return. Albedo reaches out for the bottle, containing only sediment from that damned experiment that would’ve accidentally killed Aether if he hadn’t been prepared. That would have killed the only warm sun this campsite -- that Albedo -- had ever truly known.
He stares at the strange, pink sediment gathered at the bottom of the bottle, thinking. The moon shows only when the sun has left. What light it emits is only stolen from the sun, reflecting on its surface just a fraction of what it has been given. The moon can try its best, but it will never be the same as the sun, casting its effect on others while trying its best to guide where the sun cannot.
Rolling the spout of the potion bottle between his fingers, Albedo wonders if his own gravitational pull is strong enough to bring Aether back before the end.
