Sero huffed a laugh that turned into a moan. “Not what I-I meant, baby,” he replied, and suddenly he was distracted again, trying and failing to remember when exactly pet names had been brought into private, too.

It’s times like these that Hanta wishes he were… like his peers. Where they can rely on biological instincts and subtle changes in scent, he has to rely on his subpar skill at reading people, on the hope that he can tell when a friend – are they friends, though? – would rather not be alone.
Hanta looks down at his arm, curled tight around his offered comforts, and lets out a quiet sigh.
He has to rely on a shared interest in manga, on the sheer luck that he watches Todoroki enough to know which brand of chips he sometimes buys at lunch time, what drink he reaches for from their communal fridge after class.
Third year brings Sero Hanta new manga, old insecurities, and Todoroki Shouto.

The first time markings appeared on his arm, Shouto ran to his older brother. Touya smiled down at him, told him about soulmate connections and how every writing and drawing on their skin would be shared. He helped Shouto draw a snowflake on his wrist. He also helped him hide his marks when their father came around for dinner.

Aizawa starts walking towards the exit, obviously expecting Shouto to follow him, but Shouto's feet are frozen in place. His eyes flicker from the distorted reflection of himself in the ice to where All Might is giving him a long look, eyes kinder than anything Todoroki has ever been deserving of, and he feels sick.
“Todoroki-kun,” Midoriya says gently, squeezing his arm in what Shouto presumes is meant to be a reassuring gesture. “It’s going to be okay.”
He doesn’t think Midoriya is in any place to tell him what okay is, all things considered, but he chooses to keep quiet on the matter.

Some humans did gain some affection from him. There was some pain when they died, but Izuku could easily move on. For those few humans, he’d protect their graves the best he could, and encouraged flowers to blossom more around their grave. Villagers caught onto this and considered it a blessing of sorts. They’d slaughter their cattle and repent openly of their sins to gain Izuku’s favor, believing a god could guarantee them access to heaven. If only they knew it usually just happened to a friendly face Izuku helped out from time to time.

There was never any other note, no words from the Fire Lord, just a piece of paper with the name, age, and rank of the soldier who died. Zuko had kept every single one on his ship, reading over every single one and committing their names to his memory. He couldn’t stop them from dying, but they were what motivated him to keep moving, to get back his honor so that he could help prevent deaths like theirs.

Chit Sang's brother fought in the 41st division. Unknowingly, Zuko had become a beacon of hope to those in the Fire Nation whose family had perished in the needless war, to the people who wished for a Fire Lord who will fight for their people instead of power. Chit Sang feels the need to let Zuko know this.
