“Lovers.” Bucky cuts in, causing Gale to elbow him in the ribs before he finishes,“-friends in college.”
“Nothing about what we did was friendly, Buck.” John argues back like a petulant child.
“Bucky!” Gale admonishes, sweat beginning to collect in his brow despite the ocean breeze blowing his hair every which way.
“I mean seriously- since when do you let friends fing-” John is unable to finish his final crude remark on a count of Gale’s hand coming up to slap over his mouth.

Summary
Bucky’s been running a finger over the blemish steadly this whole time,“That’s fucked up.” He says matter of factly, his eyes finally flicking up to meet Gale’s instead of staring at his knee.
“Told you.” Gale replies, reaching out his hand to cover John’s own. Moves it away from his knee and further up his thigh as he places his leg back down. He thinks he’s had enough war stories for one day.
“Guess that rules out exploring any kind of Daddy kink” John replies. Throat bubbling around the idea like it's a harmless joke, a bit of reprieve from how heavy it had gotten in the past ten minutes.
Gale’s eyes darken a shade, like bowing before your sparring partner. Two could play this game.
“I never said that.” He replies, batting his lashes coquettishly.

John bristles at the statement, laughing lightly at his weak attempts at authority and rationale, “What should I call you then, Buck? Not gonna call you Gale- m’not your momma or your spouse” He says glancing down to look at the plain and glossy gold band on his left hand.
Gale’s voice has gone all deep and wanting, but the sound is still so shocking to his own ears when he replies, “Most of the people around here, call me Mr. Cleven.”
Bucky rolls his eyes, leaning into Gale’s space with a hand braced on the desk beside him. “King Cleven more like-” another round of giggles, “Nah I can’t do that. Your face is too sweet to be a mister, I’d sooner call you Babygirl, Buck.”

Summary
The thundering steps coming from behind Gale, grab everyone’s attention. “What’s this all about Major, I called out to you earlier and you left me hangi-” Bucky’s sentence dies on his tongue as finally steps into position behind Gale, and understands what all the ‘commotion’ had been.
Bucky’s a soldier at heart, in the best of times and in the worst of times. And one of the first things they teach you in basic is to ‘observe the field before jumping into battle’. So Bucky observes: the vulgar costumes, the scared kids, the grumpy old man, and most importantly a completely and utterly distraught Gale.

Bucky thumbed through the cards gingerly, trying to set his ego aside for the sake of doing something sweet for Gale. He stopped when he found a recipe for ‘Big and Fluffy Pancakes’ and quickly scanned their pantry to see if they had everything. He was going to make pancakes—surprise Gale with breakfast in bed, and if he was lucky, they’d get to make out with the taste of maple syrup still lingering on their tongues.

Summary
Rocking them both silently and cooing at him, wiping his tears as they fall down his chin and wet the tip of his nose. John finally says, “I miss him so much, Buck.”. The hand that previously held the bottle of liquor is twisted in the front of Gale’s shirt, and he thumps his hand against Gale’s chest to emphasize his every word. And Buck just pulls him closer.
His sobs slowly soften into silent tears, and when he does finally look up at Gale, he sniffs and lets a bitter giggle slip through his watery smile. “You know he used to sing to me.” This causes Gale to let out light chuckle, because of course Curt liked to sing.

“I know your momma didn’t look down at you and name you Bucky- what’s your real name” Gale questions.
As soon as He mentioned his momma, Bucky visibly stiffens and his gaze becomes intense.
“I bet there’s a lot of things my old woman would do that would surprise you.” He says as he reaches to pull a cigarette out and light it.
Most guys would probably laugh at the joke, or even reply with something dirty, but something about the way Bucky is staring in the distance lets Buck know he’s not in the mood.
