Summary
That was how she and Cait had always been, two sides of a coin- like dawn and dusk, a burning coal on ice. It was caustic and cutting and made them feel impossibly alive, drawing them together like luna moths to a lit match.
It wasn’t love, not the kind Ekko and Jinx had- that Vi knew for certain. No, she and Cait weren’t like that; they’d never be. Vi wasn’t writing her love letters from the garden. Cait wasn’t pinning a lock of her hair to the inside of her coat.
Vander called it repartee. Ekko called it a cosmic connection. Jinx called it “shut up and kiss already,” and Vi always insisted that she would never be fool enough to try and kiss Caitlyn Kiramman. Two matches together only made a stronger fire, and their lives were dangerous enough as it was.
But they kept coming back to the flickers, risking their wings against the flame.

They lay there together, Vi’s arm draped over Cait’s stomach, and spoke of anything other than tomorrow.
“Vander had all these cups, made special for the bar,” Vi said, her voice inches from Cait’s ear. “Some had detailing on the rims, fancier than anything he could buy- someone must’ve crafted them for him. He was adamant that he wouldn’t steal, not for that. So the community started bringing in donations. Jinx had one cup- it’d been there for ages- with a little straw, because she used to get juice on her face.”

Summary
Caitlyn tried to focus on the contrast of the sling strap to the firmness of Vi’s torso, the way the tattoos felt under her fingertips, as she felt a shudder, and shake, once, twice – “You can cry,” she encouraged.
“But yo–” She was cut off by an especially large sob, whining and winding its way out of her scratchy throat as she turned, eyes targeting the bandages before she could think. “You can’t,” Vi insisted, carefully pushing out rough words. “You’re not supposed to, your dad –”
“Well, I can’t exactly help it, right now.” Caitlyn watched as Vi’s gaze dipped down to her lips, which she could feel trembling, dangerously.
Then Vi was kissing her – full, scarred lips moving against hers.
