!!!!! amazing lark and sparrow fic. Perfect to (re)read when you want to feel SAD‼️ big time about the oak garcias and the rogue card curse specifically.
I am personally always thinking of the rogue card and how much of an impact it has on lark.. big fan of the characterization of them both here (and henry of course) and it always gets my own thoughts racing about them .. I love when something makes me think about the characters SO much it inspires me to work on my own things (or at least think about them while I recover from my sobbing :') lol )

Grant swallows and turns his eyes back to his rosary. He doesn’t want to look at Sparrow. Her big green eyes and soft hair. Just makes him think about what she would look like dead.
Sparrow slips her finger into the rosary and lifts part of the string. It’s blue and green; Grant’s favorite colors when he was a kid and made it. Sparrow’s nails are painted alternating black and yellow. Black for his brother and yellow for herself. Like sunshine, bright and beautiful and burning.
Grant kinda wonders what color she would paint her nails if she was painting them for him.

Sir Lincoln chokes, sputtering incoherently.
“Ah. My apologies, I should have worded that better,” Taylor says, though it is clear to both of them that he is not that sorry.
“Please. Please do that,” his knight mutters.
After an assassination attempt on Prince Taylor’s life, Sir Lincoln has difficulties sleeping well. Taylor seeks to remedy this as effectively as possible - propriety be damned.

It’s a genuine question, but Silas laughs. “Nothing like that, kid, don’t worry,” he says, which makes Glenn wonder what actually happened to all those DVDs when Bill left. “Nah, it’s just — she’s moving out soon. Wants to be with her mom, back east. But, uh, she found some things she thought you might want to take a look at. See if they were your dad’s, and if you wanted to keep it in the family, so to speak.”
“Oh,” Glenn says.

He thought he heard something over by the treeline, but as he turned to look, Grant felt a gust of wind brush against his cheek and he turned back to see Nick standing there in a cloud of dissipating purple smoke, looking incredibly confused.
“Uh, Nick? You alri-?”
“Yeah, of course,” Nick said before Grant could finish his question. “How long have I been gone?”
“You've been gone?!” Grant asked in alarm “Where did you go?!”
“Cool, so definitely not as long as it felt then. Awesome”

“Did your mom ever dance with you as a kid?”
“What does that have to do with anything?!” he snapped, throwing his arms out as the embarrassment in his stomach collapsed into sharp annoyance.
She did, and maybe that sucked even more because it just made him miss his fucking mom like some baby. She hadn’t even been gone for more than a few hours, just letting Taylor bond with his dad one-on-one or whatever, but he missed her like an ache in his heart. He always forgot how much he liked having her around until she was gone.
“I just remember that it was something I did with you when you were a toddler.” Nick shrugged. “Wanted to know if she did it after I left.”
“You’re saying you did it first? Cringe, dude,” Taylor scoffed and Nick rolled his eyes. “Respect women, that was her and my thing.”
“I respect women plenty,” he said, turning to shoot a pointed look back at the body pillows thrown around Taylor’s bed. Taylor stepped in front of him, cutting off his vision.

Taylor bonds with his deadbeat dad. Because his dad is here to make him a hero, obviously, and not because his absence hurt. That'd be stupid. Taylor wasn't stupid. (Taylor was stupid.)
