Summary
Kaeya had been expecting questions now that things were less strained between them- Diluc used to be full of questions about all sorts of things as a kid and he wasn't so naive as to assume that this had changed over the last few years, moreso he knew that he simply wasn't privy to the more curious and innocent side of Diluc anymore- that is, until now, apparently. He wasn't sure how to feel about that currently.
Hes really not sure why this question threw him off so much, after all he had answered far more upsetting questions (specifically regarding his less than pleasant time in Khaenri’ah) with practiced ease- and yet he stood basically stunlocked in the quiet warmth of the Angels share.

Kaeya is found by Jean in a storm right at the entrance to Mondstadt, looking dazed and with open wounds all over his body.
She knew what happened; Master Crepus passed away a few hours ago. She was expecting Kaeya to look devastated due to his loss, but she was wrong.
Kaeya looked worse than devastated. Burns covered him, his mind seemed distant, and his entire body trembled, wearing a look of complete loss. Instantly, Jean felt a deep concern for her childhood friend, determined to do whatever it takes to bring Kaeya back to the bright, happy teenager he used to be before the disaster.

His junior comes right up behind him as he pauses, his tone suddenly softer. “You’re angry with me.”
“Of course I’m angry!” Kaveh spins around on heel and forced himself to stare up at his roommate, barely able to keep the tremble out of his lip. “We had plans and you just…tossed them aside. Without so much as asking me!”
Alhaitham’s brows pinch together as he stares Kaveh down, as if trying to decipher a puzzle. “You could have just come with us-”
“That’s not the point!” He’s far too drunk for this. It’s getting harder and harder to fight back the sting in his eyes and the tight squeeze in his chest. “I just…I need to go to bed. We can talk about this later.”

Kaveh's carried a torch for Alhaitham pretty much since the first day they met. It's obvious to everyone but the Grand Sage himself, but Kaveh isn't ready to put himself out there and risk being shut down.
Turns out keeping his feelings to himself ends up hurting a lot more than he expected.
In which Kaveh gaslights himself (a lot), Alhaitham's bad at feelings, Cyno's jokes are terrible, and Tighnari's just trying his best.
