Shadow’s hand reaches to his upper chest where the beast had struck him moments earlier, directly in the heart. There was no indication of bleeding, no sticky gore stuck to his fingers when he removed them from his abdomen and inspected them.
“What?” He finally settles on, because every second he spends here gets more and more puzzling. Sonic’s words just aren’t quite clicking.
“You died, Shadow the Hedgehog. Kinda lamely, too, if I might add.”

“How kind. Nice to see you haven’t changed much.”
Shadow the Hedgehog, that smug jerk, sits right down next to Knuckles like he owns the place. Knuckles had been alerted by a few other guards that Shadow was approaching, in a familiar plane that made Knuckles’s heart clench in nostalgia, but he decided to see what Shadow would do.
