Summary
Joly didn’t notice the man who sat down at his table one day until the man said cheerfully, “You too, huh?”
Joly blinked over the top of his anatomy text book. “Excuse me?” he said, more startled than anything.
The man, who was almost entirely bald, winked at him. “You’re excused,” he said with a grin. “But I was referring to your reason for frequenting this fine establishment.”
“It’s close to the hospital, and I’m a med student—”
The man waved a dismissive hand. “Sure, sure, and it’s just around the corner from the law library. But don’t pretend like you’re not also here so that you can ooh and ahh over the lovely barista, Musichetta.”
--
Or, the story of how Joly went to the coffeeshop for coffee, stayed for the barista, and found more than he could've ever hoped for along the way.

Enjolras ignored him. “We’ll meet back here on Saturday. Combeferre will send the link again—”
“Because I’m the only one with a licensed Zoom account,” Combeferre grumbled. “One of the only fringe perks of doing a postdoc.”
“And believe me,” Grantaire interjected with a smirk, “we all appreciate your sacrifice for the Cause.”
“As opposed to everything you’ve contributed,” Combeferre shot back. “Which, let me check my notes here, but, uh, what exactly have you contributed recently?”
Grantaire’s smirk didn’t slip as he raised his beer bottle in a mock toast. “Morale,” he said simply.

Courfeyrac’s expression gave absolutely nothing away as he sat down next to Grantaire again. “He’s in.”
“He – what?” Grantaire managed weakly.
“Enjolras agreed to marry you.”

“Well, I’m sorry for crashing your hookup,” Joly says, and goes to stand. “Why didn’t you tell me you had someone over? I only came over because I thought you didn’t have plans.”
“Grantaire?”
They both freeze. Grantaire pauses with a mouthful of pastry, and Joly stops in the middle of standing from his chair. Fuck, Grantaire thinks. Fuck, shit, fuck. There is no scenario where Joly didn’t recognize Enjolras’ voice just now, and Grantaire is way too tired to think on his feet and intercept this situation before it explodes.
Enjolras chooses that moment to walk out of the hallway and into the living room.
Or: When Joly inadvertently figures out that Enjolras and Grantaire are together, Grantaire is forced to confront some latent insecurities and Enjolras realizes he might have an issue with communication.

“Officially, we don’t have a leader, everyone here is equal,” Courfeyrac says, keeping his voice low as Enjolras starts his speech, “but if we did, and we don’t, it would be Enjolras.” He looks over to Marius. “Do not approach him. Let him come to you, let him be the first to initiate conversation, and for the love of God, do not mention soulmates.”

Summary
“Why don’t I walk you home?” Grantaire asked, his green eyes lighting up with something that Enjolras had an intimate knowledge of— the last time he had seen that look in Grantaire’s eyes was the last time he had come to visit— the last time he had seen him— the winter before that. That last December; the December that had, once again, changed something in the chemical makeup of both of their bodies; both of their hearts; the December that put them, somehow, back where they started.
Enjolras couldn’t hem or haw over the decision any longer; if he took too long to think about the offer, everyone would know— it was a miracle that they had managed to keep it a secret for two years, anyway. Though, Enjolras had told Cosette, and Grantaire had told Eponine— so was it even really still a secret?
“Come on,” Grantaire urged. “Seriously, this place has gotten weird ever since you left, we can’t have you walking alone at night, especially now that you’re not a city boy anymore.”
“Fine,” Enjolras huffed, gathering his things to go. “It was great to see all of you tonight,” he managed to get out.(or, the former-fwb-to-lovers one shot inspired by winterbreak and everything by MUNA)

There's a sudden tension at one end of the table: an indrawn breath, an electromagnet switched on. Courfeyrac glances towards the head of the table, and Grantaire--her peripheral vision blinkered by her hood--is treated to a truly exciting display of alarm from him. Courfeyrac opens his mouth, about to cut off--
"If you need a date for the night…"
And he's too late. Grantaire turns, and catches Enjolras's gaze full in the face.

Summary
Neither Rosa nor his mother had ever come up with a name for it. Enjolras had ended up tentatively calling it psychically enhanced empathy after devouring every sci-fi and fantasy book with psychic characters he could find (most of them confirming their insistence that he keep his secret hidden on pain of experimentation and a ruined life). He’d read everything out there, including a truly depressing number of crackpot books and magazine articles that recommended everything from communicating with angels to playing with crystals, all to try and enhance natural abilities and open the inner eye. None of those books or articles ever had any advice about making it stop.
Enjolras is used to keeping himself physically distanced from everyone around him. But when he accidentally touches Grantaire, he finds himself wanting to break the rules he's always lived by.

Summary
The nobleman stands just outside her workshop, and with the sun coming in from behind him and her eyes still aching from the brightness of the forge, Musichetta can't make out more than the shape of him. "I can make anything you want." Her chin lifts a little with pride at the words, because they're true. "What sort of armor are you looking for?"
He steps off the street and inside where she can see the set of his shoulders and the cut of his clothes, and his face, the face that every person in the city knows, and it's all she can do not to let her jaw drop and gape at Prince Legles, standing right there before her as he says, "Something sturdy. Nothing too ornate."
Nothing too ornate says the crown prince of the realm, and Musichetta wants to bury her face in her hands and laugh.

Summary
For most of college, Grantaire was hopeless over Enjolras, and everyone but Enjolras knew it. Now he’s worked to get over his crush, and for the most part, he's fine. When Combeferre asks him to choreograph and dance in the Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired opera he composed as his senior thesis, Grantaire says yes, even though he’s cast opposite Enjolras, as Puck to his Oberon. The chance to dance is worth the potential problems, and he'll have his friends as a buffer.
He doesn't count on long hours of practicing and choreographing and talking together, while they try to figure each other and their futures out. As much as he tries to avoid it, it seems inevitable that he falls for Enjolras again, and this time it isn't a crush.

“That’s a code orange,” Grantaire said, staring as Bahorel floated over to the bridge to check it. “Immediate return.”
The crew of the Musain rejoins the Corinthe to discover that Enjolras was trapped in an impossible room on an abandoned spaceship for what was two hours to everyone else, and eight and a half months for him. While he was in there, not expecting to see any of them ever again, he wrote each of them a farewell letter.

Summary
The mark had appeared on Grantaire on his sixteenth birthday, just like everyone else, a black handprint on his body in the place his soulmate would first touch him. He had tried his hardest to stay up and watch it happen, but he had been up every day that week writing a twenty page research paper, and he had fallen asleep a little before midnight and woken up to his alarm blaring at 7:15. He had rushed to the bathroom, excited—the fucking idiocy of it all—to see the spot where his soulmate would first lay hands on him.
Most of his friends had ink black splotches in the shape of fingertips or palms on their hands or wrists, the occasional shoulder or back. Grantaire’s reflection showed a blackened handprint covering his mouth. The very first time his soulmate would ever touch him would be to cover his mouth.

Summary
“I’m not sure what happened,” Grantaire admits to Combeferre. His arm is in a cast, and he can feel the tight stretch on stitches on his forehead, but the most pertinent problem really is the panic growing in his belly. His drawing arm is in a cast. The arm he uses to make art, the only part of him that really truly needs to be functional for him to have the future he wants, and it’s in a cast, and he has no idea what he did.
Combeferre’s face turns concerned. “Your head wound didn’t look bad enough for a concussion…” He pauses, eyebrows near touching in thought. He grabs Grantaire’s chart off the bed and flips through it. The tension leaves his eyebrows and they instead skyrocket towards his hairline. “Your blood alcohol level was extremely high, Grantaire. Do you remember drinking?”
