'I think about it, cracking open your chest...'
The body of the voice is on top of him, thrusting into him, pulling its pleasure out of Daniel so thoroughly he chokes on it. The voice speaks again but the body's mouth doesn't move.
'...holding your beating heart between my fingers, drinking you right from the source.'
Daniel moans and grinds down helplessly. The voice continues, 'I could read the name that's written there, across the muscle, wet and pulsing between my fingers... who's name, Daniel?'

Daniel continues to be haunted by resurfacing memories of his past with Armand. He 's desperate for answers and his lost memories, and cursed to follow breadcrumbs until he finds them.

Summary
“Petra tou Romiou, huh? Didn’t figure you one for tourist traps,” Daniel offers into the night air.
"They say that Venus, Aphrodite, whichever name you know her by, emerged from the sea foam here. She was never a baby, or a child, she emerged beautiful, with love and lust and desire following behind her,” Armand recounts.
“Yeah, this is her rock we’re sitting on, apparently," Daniel agrees non-committedly. "Cut the bullshit, we need to talk.”
Armand says nothing. Continues staring out at the ocean.
“Look at me,” Daniel hisses.
Armand turns to face him, and the breath is punched out of his chest.
Seeing him again, in the flesh, beautiful and inhuman, Daniel is forced to remember that this is not just another story he has been chasing. There is no book at the end of this year's long line of inquiry, no documentary or Pulitzer-winning article. No professional detachment. There is just this—two monsters on a beach and a horrible amalgamation of emotions that fill Daniel’s rotted heart and scarred throat.

Rashid glanced up at him. "What?"
"Nothing. Nevermind." Daniel folded the flyer into a neat rectangle and shoved it into his pocket wholesale. "There's no good spicy food around here. Fucking mayo-ville."

Summary
Daniel drinks another martini and a half, says, “You’re lucky I’m on blood thinners. I used to handle my liquor way better,” as he sets the unfinished drink on the table and offers Armand his arm again.
Armand sits next to him this time, their bodies turned in toward each other as he cradles Daniel’s arm and drinks. The blood gives him a headrush, and he blinks rapidly to attempt to clear his vision. This time he leaves the wound for longer, lets blood drip down toward Daniel’s wrist before he laps it up.
“Fuck,” Daniel murmurs as he watches. “That’s more like it.”

Daniel’s second marriage officially ended seven months ago, though she moved out two years ago. The divorce took a long time because he was dragging his feet on signing the papers. He doesn’t know why he dragged his feet for a whole fourteen-and-a-half months. He told his wife and her lawyers and his lawyers it was because he was too bogged down in preparing this memoir to give a shit about some paperwork. He is so fucking tired of getting divorced. He’s decided, officially, that he’s not ever going to get married again, even if it means he doesn’t get laid for the rest of his life. If needs must, he’ll buy a fleshlight.

“Babe, check this out,” he says as they’re knocking over a Cartier store in the middle of the night. (Armand had a hankering for some jewellery while out on the town, and Daniel is a gentleman, so he picked up a crowbar and obliged.)
Armand saunters over from where he’s been trying on pearls and peers at the engagement rings display case Daniel is beckoning him towards.
“Are we taking any of these?” Daniel asks — nice and smooth, nice and casual.
Armand graces the selection with a fleeting glance, then turns his nose up.
“Too gaudy,” he pronounces dismissively. “I cannot abide the current mania of studding everything with as many tiny gems as possible. Not to mention, these would be most unpleasant to the touch.”
The tape recorder lodged permanently in Daniel’s freshly renovated brain is whirring away, capturing every single word.
Or: Armand rekindles his love of jewellery; Daniel gets ideas.
