Summary
It’s January 15, 1985. Max is in Hawkins, Indiana, 2,082 miles from Santa Monica, and in five hours she’ll be fourteen years old. At fourteen, you can be tried as adult. She knows because Billy’s told her, so many times.
It’s January 15, ninety-five days since the worst thing she’s ever done, but there isn’t any statute of limitations on that.
(Or, Max is miserable, Billy's in danger, and Steve just wants to help. A take on why Max and Billy moved to Hawkins in the first place, featuring too many 80's songs and also a love story, maybe two.)

Summary
Billy showing up was shitty icing on the already shitty cake.
Steve hadn't been too bothered by it until Billy had caught sight of the kids in the window and any illusion he'd had of quickly getting rid of the man went straight out the window, pun intended.
He'd expected a fight, for it to get bad.
What he's not expecting is to get a hard shove onto Billy, sending him careening backwards right into the Byers fridge.
Unfortunately the heat of the moment causes Steve to be on a one-track mind, total tunnel vision as he belatedly realizes something incredibly, terribly important.
It's the fridge with a dead demo-dog inside of it.

Maybe Steve’s hallucinating. Maybe he’s fallen down the cellar steps and cracked his head open because this can’t be happening. Billy is dead. Steve watched him die. But here he is, alive and in Steve’s cellar and making a joke like he didn’t get stabbed by a monster tentacle and isn’t pale and shaky and barely standing, face and hair smeared with mud.

It’s the goddamn bat full of nails that Max had threatened him with—that she’d almost castrated him with, really. And Harrington has it. Harrington’s wielding it like it’s the most natural thing in the world. Like the thing is just another appendage to him.
Harrington’s wide eyes are glassy and desperate as he looks up at Billy. “There are monsters in the dark.”
Billy scoffs. Monsters. Right.
“Yeah,” the word is like acid on his tongue, hot and bitter, “and some of them are human.”
(Or: Steve and Billy get paired up for an English project and begin stumbling down a long, unwieldy path toward self-discovery as they deal with their own personal baggage and learn how to survive, cope, and recover in the aftermath of trauma.)
