It was common for people to get hurt during a volleyball game. A spike to the face. An unlaced shoe tripping up a receive. A collision between teammates as they scramble to save a ball. Injuries are normal. Expected.
It was less common for injuries to make a person forget everything that matters to them in the span of a second.
But eventually, injuries heal and time moves forward again.

Kyoutani had stopped going to volleyball practice, but he hadn't stopped going to volleyball, not entirely. Mondays he would make it to the Seijou locker room and although his palms itched to feel the weight of a volleyball and the sounds of sneakers squeaking against the gym floor sent shivers up his spine, he never made it on to the court. Realistically there were only a few meters separating the two rooms but to Kyoutani it felt like miles. He wanted to be there, but he was here; close yet far. Here because he had things to do, places to be, jobs to work, and because; his locker was the safest place for him to keep what little valuables he had.

Iwaizumi Hajime, 27, E.R. nurse at University of Tokyo Hospital. Some people think that life working in one of the biggest E.R. departments in the Tokyo metropolis must be hard - Iwaizumi thinks that if he didn't have to spend half of his time entertaining/cooking for/babysitting/avoiding one of the most ridiculous doctors to ever enter the medical profession, his job would be a piece of cake.
He has a hard enough time admitting that he and Oikawa are even friends, with how much of a pain in his ass the doctor can be. By the time he figures out that he's in love with the idiot, Oikawa has driven him mad enough that he just accepts it.
