Byleth is silently led into Edelgard's chambers and pressed delicately onto her bed. Less than a month ago, the both of them were barring swords and axes, cleaving the weapons of their enemies right out of their grasps. Byleth is not accustomed to the gentle way in which Edelgard handles her. It rouses something akin to affection from within her, but even then she is not certain if that is the correct word. It is impossible to know when such a sensation had always been dulled and diluted.
Byleth learns to live with a beating heart the same time that she comes to realize the feelings she harbors for her Emperor.

The emotions she had begun to cultivate in Garreg Mach were numbed by those she has buried, and those that must still fall. Her step falters, as doubts begin to plague her. Her choice must be the right one. To look back now is pointless.
