Andrew’s aware he’s not like other people. He knows. Considers this as he observes Nicky, Kevin and Neil arguing over what should be allowed within Kevin’s dietary restrictions. Andrew has been stacking sugar packets on top of each other to make a pyramid.
He’s not stupid. He can see his family making inane conversation with each other and getting something like joy out of it. Spends enough time in his head studying their reactions. He supposes he can see some value. It’s just.
He doesn’t know how they can all give away something so freely, so frequently, all the damn time.

Summary
In the next few minutes Jet witnesses the tension in Zuko’s prone, shaking frame head towards a peak. It’s odd to see how his features go slack, the perennially sullen mask that Zuko’s had on ever since Jet met him finally falling away- not in relief but in surrender, like he can do nothing else but submit to the pain. Zuko's chest rises in jerky bursts, a shudder of starts and stops that’s frankly disturbing to watch.
Sokka reaches out to gently tousle the scruffy hair, but Zuko makes a sound that’s somewhere between a whimper and a grunt and shifts weakly to curl on his side, so Sokka lets his hand fall back instead.
It should be satisfying to watch an ashmaker suffer this much, but after all he's learnt tonight, what Jet feels is a lot less like vindication and a lot more like sympathy.

Iroh accepts, mournfully, that it's going to be a long, long time before Zuko ever feels safe again. If Zuko ever feels safe again. Because of that, because Iroh thinks he already knows the reason for his nephew's silence, he doesn't look closer at just how quiet Zuko has been since waking.
Iroh should have noticed.
He wonders, later, if this, too, is his fault. If something he said while his nephew was still drifting, barely aware of his surroundings, had struck deeper than he meant it to. If even something as simple as a well-meant shh, Zuko, shh had a hand in this.
If Iroh had somehow taken his original mistake and deepened it, rather than trying to make up for it.
(If this is the shape of the scar that Iroh left on his nephew).

Eventually, the restlessness starts to set back in, spurred along by Magellan’s incessant chatter. Really, there’s not much to do except pace, wring my hands, and hope for the best.
