Bookmarker's Notes
Many times over the years, Law had laid awake wondering what his parents might think of Doffy. Later, what they would think of Cora-san. Now, he wondered what they might have thought of Luffy.
What a loon, he could almost hear his mother say. He makes you laugh, Law.
Rather reckless, but strong, said his phantom father. He pushes you.
A pirate? Lami’s eyes would have shined. What an adventure he’s bringing you, Law!
They would have liked him, Law decided. Who could not?

Summary
“Well, it’s not Nami, obviously,” Sanji reasons out loud. “You two are like siblings. And as lovely as Robin-chan is, she cannot possibly be your type.” Zoro had phrased it in a way hinting at unrequited love, which means Hiyori’s out too – that woman was practically throwing herself at him every time they were in the same room. “Oh, what was that pink-haired darling’s name? Perona, no? She–”
“Cook,” Zoro deadpans, eye narrowed. “If you want to guess sometime this century, you need to stop listing women.”
———
In which Sanji gets captured by pirate hunters, Zoro is in the right place at the right time, and one thing leads to another. You know how it is.

Summary
For a while, this is as close as they get to any sort of argument: Zoro growling at him like a rabid dog, deadlocked into a staring contest that Mihawk, for the first time, might actually lose.
Perona finally breaks the silence. "Urgh! I've had it with you--emotionally constipated sword freaks!" she fumes with a petulant stomp of her cherry boots. "Fine! If you two won’t talk about it, then I’ll do it for you!" She extends her hands. "Negative Hollow!"
Twin translucent specters erupt from her palms. Mihawk effortlessly swats away the pest -- but Zoro, only halfway to his mastery of haki and ambushed from his freshly-carved blind spot, is not quite so fortunate.
Zoro crumples to his hands and knees. “I don't deserve to have you as my father.”
Perona gasps. Zoro petrifies, and Mihawk thinks, distantly, that this is what it would feel like to take a sword to the chest.
“As your what?”

It takes hurting both of the children living with Mihawk to make him realize that they're his.

In disbelief, Mihawk touches his aching cheek. "You slapped me," he says dumbly.
"You meanie!" Perona cries, squeezing her eyes shut. "No matter which of you wins, I lose! I'd never forgive you if you killed him, and I'd never forgive him if he killed you!" Tears seep through the sewn pockets of her eyelids. "I don't want to hate the one I don't lose! Because either way, I'll end up alone!"

I honestly put this off for the longest time because I wasn't sure of this roleswap, but after actually reading it, I have no idea what I was on about. The writing is simply exquisite and by the time I finished the fic I was head over heels in love with the premise. I love the reasons each of the ASL brothers had for their changed fortunes - Luffy having declared war on the Celestial Dragons for Sabo, Ace reclaiming his heritage in a way he never had been able to in canon, and it's all so, so wonderful.

Summary
Nami’s bright orange curls flutter in the wind, a shout of colour against the night sky.
“You put a lot of faith into Straw-Hat-ya.” Law says, very quietly.
There is no humour in Nami’s tone, no hesitancy. Only a conviction simple like faith and stronger than love, a belief steadfast as the seas. “Of course. He’s the man who’s going to become Pirate King.”
What is the use of a god – what is the use of an idol, Law wants to know. What is the use of faith, of believing?

“Right in front of me.” Nami says, words without fanfare, without pomp. Matter-of-fact. “They killed her right in front of me; shot her point-blank in the chest.”
“…Why are you telling me this?” Law swallows, feels his lips untack.
Corazon in front of him, but not really, because the wall of wood that separated them had been as insurmountable and immovable as will. I’m sorry I lied to you. I didn’t want you to hate me. Him, screaming and screaming and screaming without any sound at all, him, a child – and then a gunshot, a gray snowfall. No sound until there was, no understanding of what he had until it was gone. Leave him alone now. He is free.
