    Kei and Rion, fugitives from the assassin world, share a brief, peaceful moment on a beach during their escape. There, away from the chaos, they talk about life, cats, and what it means to be seen and loved. Rion draws an X in the sand symbolizing their connection and destiny and makes Kei promise to find her again in another life. That sunset becomes their last together.

    Years later, Kei Uzuki—now known as Slur/X—has become a cold, vengeful assassin. After massacring the JAA assassins/staffs who wronged him, he’s haunted by memories of Rion. While wandering the city, he saves two stray white cats — one injured, one young — and feels Rion’s presence through them. Her old words echo: that white cats appear to souls they trust. Helping the cats stirs something long buried within him: compassion and warmth. He brings them to safety, tending to them as if fulfilling a promise he once made to her.

    Taro looks over to her, he doesn’t exactly know what she means. When she turns to him there’s a flicker of a smile on the corner of her lips. Amusement, clear as day.

    “What’s that supposed to mean?” He asks, he’s not the smartest person in the world, and everyone knows how Rion just loves speaking in riddles from time to time.

    Breathing heavily, Shin wiped the sweat from his brow, relishing in the brief, cool contact from the back of his hand. The blood dripping from his nose down his mouth had long since dried, crusting and flaking off when he rubbed a hand over it. The metallic smell from it blinded his senses as he swiped his tongue at it, cringing as he did so.

    “C’mon, once more,” he huffed out, his breathlessness betraying his haggard nature.

    Grumbling, Gaku looked as if he was about to turn him down, but ultimately decided against it. Afterall, he had been asked by Uzuki personally to help with Shins combat skills.

    Rolling his shoulders back, he turned his head to the side and spat, before looking back at the blonde, raising his fists into a standard formation.

    “Fine, but this is the last time. I’m seriously bored,” he drawled.

    Shin is 15 when Sakamoto leaves, and he’s 17 when he’s invited to a suspicious looking organization.

    His life seems to be full of surprises honestly, too much going on and yet not enough, not nearly enough for one person that is. Staring at the singular (somewhat bloody… yikes) envelope in his mailbox and wondering whether or not opening it is a good idea. He sighs and decides to open it because honestly what’s the worst that can happen? Not like he’s got much anyways.
