A childhood of hospitals and doctors made Ravi very averse to wanting things. At a very young age, he had to learn to love and appreciate what he has. What is tangible and in front of him. There's no point in wanting or wishing because tomorrow's never promised. Why waste precious time and energy on fruitless wants, when that effort could go towards appreciating what he has?What he has at the moment, what is tangible, is his friendship with Buck. That is real and happening right now, in the present. There is no reason to even think about, to entertain the mere idea of something more. Ravi is perfectly happy with what he has. There's no other choice.

Chimney winces but presses on. “Eddie…” He hesitates, glancing at Karen like he’s begging her for an out. She nods firmly. No turning back now. “Buck is dead.”
The line goes silent. A heavy, eerie silence that settles over the room like a shroud. She knows what Eddie must be feeling right now—the cold shock, the hollow ache, the frantic disbelief. She remembers how it felt when Chim had told her Hen was dead, how her world had stopped spinning for one agonizing moment. Her hands curl into fists against the table. This is fine. This is part of the plan.
But then there’s a screech through the phone, followed by an extended, blaring honk.
Karen’s stomach drops. Her eyes dart to Hen’s, wide with alarm.
Fuck.

Summary

Sirius Black loved “Spin the Bottle”. The stupid little muggle game that Mary had introduced them all to at the first party of the year. It was stupid and fun and made him feel like the teenager he was instead of the young adult he would soon be. He loved the casual voyeurism of it and how sometimes when two people kissed they had chemistry that no one expected. He loved how many people looked at him with hunger in their eyes when he spun the bottle, their casual adoration feeding him like a hearty meal. He loved how when the bottle did fall on him, and more often than not, the person's eyes were filled with joy and thanks. When their lips finally met, they possessed a needy air that he was oh so willing to meet.
He also loved how much Remus hated it. As soon as it was brought up, the quiet boy with the serious eyes and quiet demeanour would scrunch up his nose and immediately try to run. He would eventually be brought into the fold and sit with his eyes cast downward at his feet, refusing to watch the spectacle all around him. Every once in a while, the bottle would stop in his direction and he would look up in abject terror; his cheeks growing redder with every step forward the intended kisser took.

In exchange for saving him, Hermione gave Sirius only one instruction: “We can’t interfere,” she insisted. “If anyone finds out you’re alive before the right time it will ruin everything.” Too bad that Sirius Black was never very good at respecting rules.
Of course, if he had followed the rules, he wouldn't have discovered that Remus Lupin has apparently taken his death rather badly.

“I won’t.” He finds himself whispering too, as if a louder sound might ruin the moment.
The air between them is still and quiet, punctuated only by the wail of a siren somewhere outside in the distance. Sirius wets their lips, and they lift the joint back up and breathe. The tip burns orange. “Okay.” Wisps of smoke curl around their lips and they close the gap between them.

“Six months.” He muttered in disbelief letting the reality of it all sink in. “I was gone for six months. How did this happen? How did it all get so messed up in just six months!”
Glancing between his fingers he saw Remus grimace from the doorway. “If we are going to be accurate, we let it get all messed up in seventy two hours. It’s just… still a mess six months later.”

James survives on the night of Halloween 1981. Barely. He was badly injured and in a coma which the experts said would be permanent.
