Sothis merely tilts her head. “What is time?” She points to the air. “Here, you are alive.” She draws a line from that point to another. “Here, you are dead.” Her hand goes back and forth between the two points. “Here, you are alive. Here, you are dead. Here…” She goes on and on until Byleth nods — point taken.
“And if there are more lines?” Like how there is more than one of them, in these dreams — multiple versions coalesced into one.
Sothis shrugs, lounging upon her throne. “Then…” Her finger traces through the air, darting from point to point, crossing and veering and tangling itself up. “Then it goes on.” Life to death, death to life. “Endless.”
Byleth nods.

Felix used to slick his hair back with pomade, but once they started bounty hunting, he started tying his hair up instead, careless of the stray strands escaping the tight bun. It was supposed to keep his hair out of his eyes when he was riding and shooting, but it came loose so often Sylvain wondered if there was even a point to it. Sweat trickled down Felix’s face, his hair matted against his forehead, and Sylvain felt a familiar stir.

In ship years, the Scylla is a woman well into her 40s. She’s mature, she’s dependable, and she’s seen some shit. Sylvain found her in a used shipyard over five years ago: battered by asteroids, her main engine a constellation of outdated parts, rats and birds nesting in her cargo bay. Maybe it was messed up for Sylvain to look at a spacecraft and see a metaphor, but there you go.
