    “We aren’t dating,” Ryo states, flatly. She tries not to think about how much saying so causes an ache in her chest.

    Bocchi needs some advice and for some reason thinks Ryo is the right person to ask. Ryo is not the right person to ask but she gives some advice anyway, unwittingly setting a chain of events in motion that changes quite a few things.

    She supposes it’s true what they say, that the more things change the more they stay the same. That’s definitely what it feels like where Ryo and… whatever this is they have between them is concerned. Admittedly, there are times when that frustrates Nijika, but right now it comforts her.

    Graduation feels like a lifetime ago and tomorrow would be her first day of college, and they wouldn’t be classmates anymore, not even schoolmates anymore, but at least she’ll always have this, however confusing and murky it is, with Ryo.

    (Nijika learns to navigate the in-between she and Ryo have found themselves in.)

    Having heard of a ghost sighting in Idaho, the girls travel to a remote town in the mountains in search of the shadow people scaring the villagers.

     

    Spoiler alert: they didn't find shadow people.
