“They’re an important component of the ritual, Kara.” Lena replies, the deadpan quality to her voice more teasing than serious.
Kara glances around at the scene that surrounds her. The dim lights, drawn blinds, loose chill to the air—not to mention the upwards of probably thirty candles encircling her— she halfway expects a group of robed wizards to emerge from the shadows and start chanting or something. Or for a dragon to suddenly fly in through the tower window.
“It just feels a little bit like overkill to me.”
OR: Lena is Kara's hot witch wife, and Kara would let her do anything to her.

“Lena! Hey!” Kara’s voice comes pouring through the phone, and Lena feels her shoulders relax. “I was actually just about to call you. What’s up?”
It’s funny, Lena thinks then, how the knots in her chest ease around Kara. Her world has always been full of uncertainties, fleeting moments of happiness snatched away when she gets too comfortable. But with Kara, it feels stable, less lonely, like maybe one day she could allow herself to breathe, if Kara’s around.
“Oh yeah?” Lena can’t help but smile, pressing the phone closer to her ear as if it’ll help her absorb some of Kara’s warmth. “I was just going to ask if you wanted to come over for a movie night this weekend, I, um—” Lena pauses, rubbing her free hand over her sternum, “I could use the company.”
“Oh, that’s... kind of why I’m calling, actually,” Kara says, then falters. It’s soft, and it’s hesitant, and Lena’s shoulders sag, but then— “Alex and I are going to Midvale for a few days, and I thought maybe you’d like to come.”

At 8:01 Lena calls the mortuary one hand holding the phone to her ear, the other clasping Kara's hand tightly.
Lillian Luthor is wheeled away into a first call vehicle, and out of Lena's sight by 9:31 pm.

Lena Luthor is curled up on her couch with a book propped up on her legs when a fiery orange blaze splits the sky in two. Not that she sees it, because she’s just about dozing off, glasses sitting askew on her nose, cheek smooshed up against the palm of her hand—but she does hear the thunderous crash coming from her backyard, and she certainly feels the way the entire house shakes from the impact.
When she pads over to the window to peer into her backyard, it’s completely dark. She can barely make out the familiar shapes of her garden through the inky blackness. Everything is still, except for an odd shape at the base of the huge oak tree in the far corner of the yard--which is on fire.
(Basically, what if Lena found Mon El's pod? I try and make Mon El a good character. Lena and Mon El form a friendship (the brotp you didn't know you wanted), Kara is very protective of Lena, and Lena is a gay mess. Drama ensues. Supercorp fall in love obvi)
