Summary
There's just– something about them. Something that makes him feel like his ribs are just a tiny bit more open for anything to flow inside his chest, like his lungs will swallow down anyone's words and shoot them straight to his heart, like his head is just a tad easier to get into. He feels open, almost vulnerable.
It's not necessarily bad– not when people tend to know better than to mess with him, anyways.
—
Or: Kageyama's feelings about rainy days, and kagehina sharing warm breakfast.

Summary
See, Kageyama has thoroughly analyzed his options given his current situation, and he's pretty sure the best course of action to get his ex back is to date someone else in front of him.
Okay, look– look.
Just bear with him for a moment here, alright?

Summary
It's only natural, he thinks, that Tendou is a recurring topic in the notebook he’d specifically picked for his absent-minded class notes.
He is his best friend (as unnatural as that sounds– Ushijima’s mind still abruptly pauses whenever he thinks about it, and he has to remind himself that the term is only fitting, as Satori had said so himself) and sits next to Ushijima in nearly every single class.
Later on, he realized it was a bit unnerving that that's the only reason he found out about Tendou's thing with food.
(Or: Ushijima writes random notes because it helps him focus in class. Accidentally, said notes turn into a study of his best friend's habits– especially the unhealthy ones)
Warning: this work discusses mental health issues (such as eating disorders and self-harm) and Tendou's recovery. None of it is meant to be glorified or romanticized, and he does get a lot better! Further warnings will be added for any chapters containing graphic descriptions. Stay safe!

Summary
The words had remained stuck in his head the rest of that day, and most of the day after. Logically, he knew Hinata would sometimes practice with other friends, people from other teams–
But Ushijima Wakatoshi? Now that was a new one.
Kozume would've been Kageyama's first guess, and Bokuto-san right after him. Atsumu-san would've been expected– infuriating, but expected nonetheless.
Ushijima? That was just confusing
It suddenly struck him that maybe the whole reason Hinata had been willing to break his whole routine just to avoid Tobio was that he hadn't broken his routine at all– just changed the person he practiced with.
—
Hinata starts practicing with someone else after a fight with Kageyama. Kageyama is absolutely confused about everything.

Summary
It’s been a few years since he’s celebrated his birthday.
(Okay, that makes him sound sad. And lonely. He does celebrate his birthday, at midnight, every twenty-second of December, with a small, store-bought cupcake and a candle he’s been reusing for years. By a bit after midnight, he’s already made a wish and devoured a cupcake, and he can look forward to volleyball practice in the morning. It’s not sad. Or lonely.)
In which Tobio's birthday becomes more of a yearly observance than a celebration (and Hinata just can't have that).

Summary
There is a thud and a vibration that courses through the wood at his back, and now his voice is a lot closer to his ear. Almost like he is in there with him.
“I’m scared,” he confesses, almost as quiet as a whisper.
Shoyou turns his head, leaning his ear closer.
He sniffles. “Of what? Of me?” He asks.
Kageyama is quiet for a long time. In that time, Shoyou’s breathing evens out some.
“I guess I’ve always been like a beetle,” he finally saysWhen a fight with his parents results in Shoyou dashing out into the snow blizzard without a place to go, chance has him stumbling into Kageyama out on his daily jog--and by extention--has him stumbling headfirst into his lonesome life.
When a storm keeps them locked in with nothing but each other as company a thousand things rise to the surface.

Summary
Somewhere along the way of learning all kinds of things about Kageyama the person, rather than just Kageyama the volleyball player, Hinata's problematic crush had grown from something simple into something much deeper and all consuming. The more he tried to stuff the feelings down, the more unbearable they got. The more he tried to rid himself of the feelings, the more prominent they became.
It was one thing to want Kageyama to see him as a real, true friend. He had gotten his wish. Kageyama was more open towards him than he had ever been.
It was another thing to want Kageyama to need him as a person, to want to stand beside him as an equal, a partner in all things.
It was the one thing he thought about most often. Maybe even more than volleyball.Somewhere along the way, Hinata had become completely, irreparably, hopelessly in love with Kageyama Tobio - his best friend.
He was totally fucked.

Summary
In a moment of impulsivity, Kageyama lets Hinata closer than planned. It shouldn't be a big deal. Hinata doesn't treat him any differently. But it feels like the world starts spinning, all because of a hug.
