“Evan.” Phillip doesn’t get up to greet Buck. He simply stares from his seat next to Margaret. “What are you doing here?”
Buck schools his features into the most affable expression he can manage under the circumstances.
“You literally asked Maddie for help,” Buck says, still standing awkwardly in the doorway. “Told her you needed someone to help around the house once you’re out of the hospital.”
“Yes, but –”
“What we meant was –”
“You asked Maddie.” Buck isn’t surprised to see his parents exchange a knowing look at this. “Because god forbid your son come to help out, right?”
Or, Buck has to go home to take care of his injured mother. While there, he confronts his complicated feelings about his parents, his place in his birth family, and the importance of found family.

Eddie tilts his head in question at Buck. His eyes drag all over Buck’s body, clearly in search of an answer. He wants to know, Buck can tell. He needs to understand him. His eyes land on Buck’s injured shoulder and he can almost see the second all the dots connect. Eddie’s eyes widen, his hand coming up to hover over his own shoulder.

So when he hears of a Chosen One with power the Dark Lord knows not, he thinks maybe he doesn't want this boy prophesied to defeat Lord Voldemort to grow up in the Wizarding world. He thinks of the bonds of family, and the opportunity he has to shape his world's politics, and of a corrupt magical elite who've signed on with two Dark Lords over hatred of Muggles. He thinks Harry Potter should grow up loved by his family, and Voldemort be destroyed so there is no need for Harry to ever realize his power, and he acts to make both of those things happen. Because he's Dumbledore and what he wants, he gets.
