Summary
The thunder roared between the clouds, casting down its claws onto the yells of anguish below. Somewhere in the distance, despite the rain, a heavy musk of smoke mixed with the metallic scent of blood.
The yells were deafening, blending into one another, morphing into a looming monster everyone, and everything whole. There was no way to differentiate the noise coming from your throat, and the noise coming from others. No way to tell which way your mother yells for you, which way your father does, where your brother cries, or where your sister dies.
The most surreal sound, one that stood out from the rest, must be the crystalline shimmer, whispering all around their town. Amidst the rain, the thunder, and fire. Luminous shimmering light sparkled through the air high above them, gliding down foot by foot, as the only safety they ever knew came down from all sides.
The barrier was down, and with that, more noise came in.

"Once that barrier comes down, only a host can bring it back up." An Elder would always say. A Host. A being above us all, who have granted us this blessing of safety, and security.
A Host, who they later find out, took all that away as well.

Summary
Leaning in, he heard nothing behind the door. Either Ace wasn’t home yet, or he was asleep already. Though he didn’t hear the sound of the AC behind the door either, so he assumed the former. He knows how the older boy couldn’t go to sleep until his room was freezing cold, claiming he ran way too hot.
Actually, now that he thinks about the older, Ace has been acting pretty weird as of recently. Luffy already barely saw him, and when he did the man was always tired or hiding in his room. The last time they properly hung out was probably the night before they sent Sabo off.

Or, Luffy isn't the smartest guy around, but he knows his brother. And he knows he isn't okay.

Or, a story of how Ace slowly crumbles under the burdens of being the oldest. After all, if he doesn’t look out for his family, who will?
(He forgets a family entails a multitude of people. People who can look after him and each other as well. He learns though.)

Wake up, turn off the heat, turn off the electricity, make sure the tap isn't running, skip breakfast and run to school. Rinse and repeat.
Though maybe he should rinse a bit better, literally, because next thing he knows he's being handed a bag full of baby wipes, toothpaste, soap... Embarrassing. He thinks about giving this albino jerk a piece of his mind, until his eyes catch the laminated sheet of wolf stickers, and, well, maybe he will give this jerk a piece of his mind later.

He forgot about the later, though. He forgot it when the white haired man remembered his comment about liking wolves. He forgot it when the man kept shoving wolf stickers into his hands. He forgot it when he found out the suspicious amount of money in his lunch account had been due to his courtesy. He forgot it when his hair got ruffled after he got in another fight, when the man showed up at his house with his teacher holding bags of warm food, when the two men stayed with him all night on the cold police station floor, when the two men stood tall in court, arguing for him and Tsumiki for days on end.
He forgot it over and over again, and he hopes he keeps getting reasons to forget.
