His fingers grasp the blanket and sink into the lacy weave, and he stares at his mother with dark, unfocused eyes. She looks back with awed wonder, stroking his cheek with the side of her index finger, before settling the blanket more closely around him.

SHIELD safe-houses are always in the middle of nowhere, and Tony hates them on principle for that fact. (His lake house is in a respectable little slice of nowhere in the Catskills, thank you very much.)
Honestly, Tony hates that he’s anywhere but home right now with his wife and child, cuddled up by the fire watching How to Train Your Dragon for the twentieth time.
But it isn’t the right time. Not until the whole family can be there. Not until he finds Peter.
Tony Stark died, turning to dust like the enemies he vanquished with his final act of heroism. A year later, the unverse brings him back. Hiding away from the world after the reveal of his identity, Peter finds it harder to believe than anyone, and Tony has to convince him that it’s not all just another illusion.

Which includes that time he kidnapped Tony Stark’s kid in 2007. 12 years later, after tracking Nicholas Stark down again on a trip that takes him halfway around the world, he drops the teenager now known as Peter Parker off on Tony’s doorstep.
Then Peter and Tony are left to deal with the aftermath.

Summary
The world around him is solid. It makes sense. Despite the existence of aliens and literal gods in their galaxy—the science of it all makes sense. They just have yet to figure it all out.
Then he’d been thrown into a spiral of falsehoods—one after another, all so fast, all so real—and suddenly he’s in the Netherlands. It’s too nice compared to the horrors he became used to—a far cry from the real world: a world of dead parents, dead uncles, and half of a universe, dead with the snap of one creature’s fingers.
Where once there was certainty…now there’s fragility.
So, when he sees Tony step out of the plane instead of Happy…he falters.
OR: Tony appears during Far From Home. Not much changes, but some things do. At the very least, Peter gets cared for in the wake of a barrage of traumatic events.
