Li Lun wrenches at the chains again, chest heaving with exertion; but no matter how he tries, he can't rip his limbs free of them. Their hateful golden light suppresses his yao qi- suppresses his strength. The metal has grown slick with his blood. Outside in the dahuang, Zhu Yan is similarly dyed in red.
Li Lun has been able to see it all, trapped here as he is: watched him kill the Baize goddess, Li Lun's one chance of escaping; watched him kill the pathetic humans that tried to stop him. Li Lun has never been forced to watch without being able to intervene. It makes his heart race; he feels like he's going mad. He lets out a scream of anger, power fizzling between his skin and the suppressing chains.
Hours later, Zhu Yan stumbles into the cave, still smelling faintly of blood after his ineffective washing.
